After returning to Vietnam, Oc Thanh Van confirmed her participation in The Silent Room at Hong Van Drama Theater. The play also features artists such as People's Artist Hong Van, artist Hoang Son, artist Dinh Manh Phuc and a young cast.
In the work, Oc Thanh Van plays Ngoc, who suffers from temporary amnesia and can only retain memories for a day. The strange thing is that Ngoc is always haunted by a tragic accident with the image of a girl without eyes or nose wandering around the villa. Until Quy (played by Khoi Nguyen) appears, the terrifying secrets that have been hidden for so long are gradually revealed.
The Silent Room marks the milestone of Oc Thanh Van's return to the stage during Tet, and is also an opportunity for the female artist to reunite with her senior Hong Van. Since returning to Vietnam, the 8X actress has been busy practicing to prepare for this comeback. She shared: "Hong Van Stage is my second home, where I have been attached for a long time, accumulating professional experience. No matter where I go, I always look back, because it is my career when I love the stage so much."
Oc Thanh Van humorously said, “When I returned to my hometown, I felt like I was reborn” even though I was “completely exhausted” before. In Vietnam, the actress received support from everyone so she could focus on her work on stage.
“I have trained my brain to be able to adapt and work separately. When I am on stage, I only know what I am doing is the character and the play. When I leave it, I do other things. My head in the past few days has been divided into 3 or 4 compartments. But the biggest compartment is the stage. Luckily, I have a good memory, so I memorize lines quickly. When I rehearse plays, I use my "long-term memory" because a play needs time for the actors to feel it, plus time to perfect it after the performance. For other things, I use my "temporary memory". When I finish, I release it to clear my head," the actress confided.
Having just returned to Vietnam, Oc Thanh Van could not avoid the “jetlag” situation. She shared: “The 4-hour time difference between Melbourne and Vietnam is not a problem, even a bigger time difference is still passable, but that is traveling. Because I can sleep in the car, and eagerly explore when I arrive, I don’t feel much of a difference. But after living there for a while, my body gets used to that rhythm. The first few days, I practiced with everyone until 10pm and then yawned and cried.”
When asked about the reason for sticking with the stage despite the low salary, Oc Thanh Van said that thanks to this place, she is loved by the audience, has more opportunities to work in other fields such as movies, dubbing, MC or even business and yoga teaching. The beauty expressed her opinion: "Money can be earned in many ways, but the gratitude and the root must be remembered for the rest of your life."
Regarding her salary, Oc Thanh Van said she often forgets her salary envelope when performing on stage. Sometimes when she opens her bag, the actress “discovers” that her salary has not been used.
“I really don’t go to the stage for the salary because if I only perform plays, it won’t be enough to cover the expenses for my big family. In the past, when the stage was at its peak, there was a time when The Ghost Wife performed plays 7 days a week, 2-3 shows a day on the weekends, not to mention touring the provinces. The salary was enough to save up. And this Tet season, eating and sleeping on stage, I have enough money to give lucky money to the whole family, just coming home and having something to do makes me happy,” Oc Thanh Van confided.
