In 2023, Van Mai Huong "made waves" in the Vietnamese music market with hits: June Rain, Great Star. At the same time, she also "won big" at the Blue Wave Awards when she was honored in the categories: Female Singer of the Year; Song of the Year; Excellent Collaboration; Top 10 Favorite Songs.

Sharing with VTC News , Van Mai Huong said she had a year of hard work.

- Tet is an occasion for everyone to look back on the past year. It seems that 2023 is a quite successful year for Van Mai Huong?

I think I worked hard last year. I'm quite satisfied with how hard I worked last year.

I also think I need to thank the crew and the people around me for supporting me to complete the products I cherish. Especially, I need to say thank you to the audience, who have always supported me.

- What is the reason Van Mai Huong chose 2023 to "explode" in music?

I usually set a deadline of releasing an album every two years. Two years ago I had the album Huong and this time we were lucky enough to meet the deadline when releasing the album Minh tinh .

Before, I probably wasn't diligent enough, so I often missed deadlines. But now I'm more diligent, focusing 200% on my work, so everything goes smoothly and I meet deadlines.

- Working according to deadlines, focusing up to 200% of your energy on work, do you feel tired and bored?

Yes, but I have changed a lot compared to before. Before, I was still young and easily got caught up in personal emotions and forgot that I had a job.

Now I love my job so much and am completely focused on it so the fatigue is much less.

- What made you change like that?

I realized that when I work harder, I will receive more love from the audience.

Simply because I realized that when I work harder, I will receive more love from the audience. When I work harder, put more effort into my work and am rewarded with many quality music products.

Actually, I don't really spend all my time on work. There are times when I slow down a bit to live for myself and take care of my personal stories.

- Speaking of change, it seems like Huong has also changed in the way she deals with gossip related to herself?

I think I am also “fated for scandals”, many things seem to fall from the sky. A few years ago, when faced with noise, I would make a fuss and be very confused, but now I am calmer, slowly resolving the problem and also looking back at myself to see what is right and what is wrong.

Van Mai Huong admitted that she has become more "sober".

- To be as calm and clear-headed as you are now, surely Van Mai Huong must have gone through some "crisis" moments?

I consider myself luckier than many people in the Vietnamese music industry. I joined Vietnam Idol and had a stepping stone to conquer my dream. When I debuted, I also had a hit song that was recognized.

But there were times when I didn’t know what to do because I thought I was in the “middle” generation. There were times when I had to prove to the audience my maturity.

The period when the audience could not accept that I had grown up and was no longer a 16 or 17 year old girl was also the time when I stopped, looked at myself and improved myself.

- The general trend of young artists today is "multi-talented", does Van Mai Huong plan to try herself in other fields?

Maybe I am not destined for other fields like movies or modeling. I am currently focusing all my efforts on music because I think I should focus on my strengths in that field.

As a singer, I want to convey my own mark and image to the public through music. First of all, I will do that well, and later if opportunities in other fields come to me, I will definitely give myself more opportunities to try.

- Many people think that you have to conquer the peaks and achieve many achievements in many fields to prove your success. What is your personal concept of success?

I always think that success is being happy with what you do. I want to live happily and fully with what I have chosen, not doing something to earn a lot of money or have a high position.

I think I'm very lucky to be able to make money based on my passion. I'm happy with my current job, and that's already a success for me.

- Huong is talking a lot about work, what about love?

I have different views on love at different times. But I think I'm still not lucky in love.

- Is that why you focus more on work?

It's possible, because none of us can achieve everything perfectly. I think it's impossible to develop work, family, and love at the same time.

Later, when I feel my energy for work is a little less, maybe I will think more about getting married.

- The New Year is approaching, how does Van Mai Huong usually celebrate Tet?

During Tet, I usually don't take on any shows and spend time with my family. Usually, I will worship the Kitchen Gods in Ho Chi Minh City and then return to Hanoi.

My whole family will celebrate New Year's Eve together, then wear Ao Dai and go to the temple. The first day of the year is usually the day for us to meet the extended family.

Some years, my whole family will celebrate the first day of the new year at home, then travel abroad together.

For me, the most important thing during Tet is that the family is together, no matter what we do. I will stay with my family for a few days during Tet, then I will return to Ho Chi Minh City early because I have my own house there, which also needs to be taken care of.

During Tet, Van Mai Huong spends all her time with her family.

- In her career, Van Mai Huong has clear deadlines and very specific goals. So in love, do you have an ideal model to "aim for"?

I think at this age we shouldn't talk about ideal types anymore (laughs). For me now, the person who can be by my side just needs to be the right person, they just need to have some value that makes me feel peaceful and safe.

- So the keywords to conquer you are "peace" and "safety", what about the economy?

I am a Libra so I always need balance criteria for any choice. Therefore, the person next to me also needs to have a certain correspondence with me in all aspects. If they are too low, it is not good, but if they are too high, it will make me lack confidence.

I think the person next to me needs to be funny enough, knowledgeable enough, strong-willed and make me respect him.
