“Play for fun, win for real” is what many people say when they see the model of raising black apple snails in canvas tanks of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hien (Loc Tien hamlet, My Loc commune, Can Giuoc district, Long An province). This startup model of hers initially brought quite high economic efficiency.

Ms. Hien shared that, realizing that commercial black apple snails are increasingly popular in the market, she took advantage of the vacant land behind her house to make a tarpaulin tank to raise snails.

Apple snails raised in tarpaulin tanks are easy to care for, cost nothing and it is easy to monitor the snail's growth.

Food for black apple snails is duckweed, soft-bodied plants, vegetables, tubers, and fruits, but they must be clean; free of pesticides and chemicals. The water in the tarpaulin tank is changed every week, through a fixed drainage line, so it is easy to do.

From the initial 2 experimental snail farming tanks, Ms. Hien has now expanded the scale of black apple snail farming to 49 tarpaulin tanks, covering an area of 1,000 square meters.

To proactively provide clean food sources on-site for black apple snails, she also set aside 2,000 square meters to grow duckweed, taro, squash, pumpkin, etc. to raise black apple snails.
