In the first half of 2024, wood and forest product exports will earn 7.95 billion USD

According to the Department of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the export value of wood and forest products in the first 6 months of 2024 is estimated at 7.95 billion USD, an increase of 21.2% over the same period in 2023, reaching 52.3% of the plan.

Some key markets increased sharply such as: the United States reached 4.38 billion USD, up 27.6% over the same period in 2023; China reached 1.059 billion USD, up 46.6%.

On the other hand, the import value of wood and wood products in the first 6 months of 2024 is estimated at 1.29 billion USD, up 19% over the same period in 2023. Thus, the whole industry's trade surplus in the first 6 months of 2024 is estimated at 6.664 billion USD, up 21.6%. The product with the largest trade surplus is wood and wood products (6.16 billion USD, up 22.5%).

Regarding forest development, the Forestry Department said that newly planted concentrated forests reached 125.5 thousand hectares, reaching 51.2% of the plan, up 1.2% over the same period; the whole year is estimated to reach about 245 thousand hectares, reaching 100% of the yearly plan. Scattered tree planting reached 44.6 million trees, up 2.9% over the same period last year, the whole year is estimated to reach 130 million trees.

Regarding the implementation of payments for forest environmental services, in the first 6 months of the year, 1,521.16 billion VND was collected, of which 1,281.58 billion VND was collected from 4 types of forest environmental services prescribed in Decree No. 156/2018/ND-CP, reaching 39.3% of the 2024 collection plan, equal to 92.3% compared to the same period in 2023; revenue from ERPA as prescribed in Decree No. 107/2022/ND-CP was 239.58 billion VND.

From now until the end of the year, the Department will comprehensively deploy solutions, including developing forms of association, cooperation, and benefit sharing in the forestry production and business chain.

At the same time, continue to effectively implement the policy of payment for forest environmental services, promote the implementation of carbon absorption and storage services and develop the forest carbon credit market. Implement activities on biodiversity conservation of forest ecosystems; ecotourism, resorts, entertainment; sustainable use of the forest environment.

Continue to organize and implement tasks and solutions for sustainable development of the wood processing and export forestry industry; coordinate in preventing trade fraud; closely follow and develop operational scenarios for the export and import of wood and forestry products to ensure the achievement of the 2024 plan targets.
