(VTC News) - The female student who won first prize in the 2016 UPU International Letter Writing Competition has now become a beautiful girl with a series of admirable achievements.

Pride of Vietnam

Eight years ago, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang (born in 2001) became the pride of Vietnam when she won first prize in the 45th UPU International Letter Writing Competition. At that time, Thu Trang was a 9B student (school year 2015 - 2016) at Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Nam Sach District, Hai Duong Province.

The day I received the news, I was surprised and extremely moved,” Thu Trang said. The 45th UPU international letter-writing competition that year took place with the theme “Write a letter to yourself at the age of 45”. In the letter, Thu Trang transformed into Aylan Kurdi - a baby who drowned and drifted to the shore of Bodrum, Türkiye during a sea voyage with her family, an event that shocked the world that year. “That image made me heartbroken. At the age of 3, when he should have been loved and protected, that baby had to lose his life on the way to find the promised land,” the student said. Compassion urged Trang to write down her wish for a world without war and violence, where children could live peacefully and happily. Trang’s most memorable moment was standing on stage in Türkiye to receive the award and read the full text of her winning letter in her mother tongue. “That was a sacred moment that I will never forget in my life,” the girl from Hai Duong confided. The international first prize and the trip to Türkiye that year became a great motivation for the little girl. Having met many talented people in the world, Thu Trang told herself to try to improve her English so that in the future she could confidently communicate, make friends, and even debate social issues with international friends.

Don't rest on your laurels

“Success in the writing contest is the first brick that opens the door to the vast world that I want to explore and enjoy,” Thu Trang said, understanding that success does not mean stopping. After that success, what must she do to be worthy of the title she has achieved, worthy of the trust of her parents, teachers and friends. More importantly, to be worthy of her own trust.

With that determination, Thu Trang has continuously learned and practiced. Now, the innocent 9th grade girl has become a beautiful young woman with a series of achievements that many people admire.

Thu Trang is living and working in the Czech Republic. The girl born in 2001 has just graduated with honors, majoring in Management and Marketing, Mendel University with a GPA of 1.02/1 (according to the Czech Republic's standard scale). Not only is she the valedictorian, Thu Trang's GPA is the highest in the history of Mendel University since its establishment. Thu Trang is working at SAP - a multinational technology company headquartered in Germany, in the position of Operation Management Support. The young girl said: "This is a big turning point in my life, I have tried very hard to work in a dynamic international environment, especially to do my favorite job that is true to my major". Sharing about her journey to the Czech Republic, Thu Trang said it was a difficult decision. In 2019, Trang passed the Korean Language Department entrance exam - Hanoi University. At that time, the Korean Language Department had almost the highest entrance score in the country. Trang studied day and night to get a ticket to her dream school. However, at that time Trang also received an acceptance notice from Mendel University, Czech Republic. Many worries appeared in the mind of the 18-year-old girl, wondering whether to stay in Vietnam to study the major she had worked so hard to pass, or to set foot in a new land, to explore the world she had dreamed of since childhood. After many days of hesitation, Thu Trang decided to go to the Czech Republic. But the biggest reason for Trang to make this decision was because of her mother. Thu Trang confided: "My mother works and lives in the Czech Republic, I haven't seen her for many years, and I want to spend more time with her." Her mother was the biggest source of motivation for Trang to be ready to get used to a completely new environment and major. There was a time when I thought about going back,” Trang said. However, with strong determination, Thu Trang tried to find a suitable way to study, boldly talking and interacting more with teachers and friends. Gradually adapting, she became more and more confident and felt excited when doing projects and presentations with friends from many places around the world. That effort helped the girl from Hai Duong to excel and become an outstanding student, receiving scholarships for each semester. Trang believes that at each stage in life, we will have different dreams, dreams will change according to each situation. For a 23-year-old girl, once she has achieved her dream at a certain point, she must continue to dream, break down her dream, think about the future to use that as motivation to constantly strive and improve herself every day. The type of woman Trang wants to aim for is confident, independent, and self-reliant. "I am always grateful to Ms. Diep. She is not only a teacher, but also a guide, a companion, a confidant with me on every journey", Trang said. Sharing about her beloved student, Ms. Quynh Diep choked up: "I have taught many generations of students but rarely is there a student as comprehensive as Trang. She is talented, brave, and meticulous in every job. What I love most about Trang is her sophistication and maturity compared to her age. Trang is a very sensitive, sincere and kind girl". Ms. Diep always has unconditional trust and absolute support for Trang.
