Love math because of… the mystery
The contestant receiving the special prize must be the valedictorian of one subject in each group, or win first prize in both algebra and analysis. As a result, Tran Ngoc Quynh Giang, a student at the Foreign Trade University in Ho Chi Minh City, is the only female student to win first prizes in both subjects.
"I don't dare to set my expectations too high. I just try my best, try to study hard to achieve the best results possible. On the award day, I was very surprised when my name was called among the 11 students who won the special prize. And I was even more surprised when I was the only female contestant," Quynh Giang shared her feelings and added: "After winning this award, my family, friends, and teachers sent me many congratulations. Perhaps these are truly happy days for me."
Quynh Giang is the only female student to receive a special prize at the 30th Mathematical Olympiad for students.
When asked about the secret to winning the highest prize in the Student Math Olympiad, Quynh Giang said: "I would like to express my gratitude to the teachers who guided and trained the team. Thanks to their dedicated guidance, I was able to overcome the most difficult questions, especially in analysis. In addition, I would also like to thank myself for spending a lot of time reviewing and solving exam questions in previous years to get used to the time pressure and difficulty of the exam."
Talking to Quynh Giang, it's easy to see that this Gen Z female student is extremely fond of math. Quynh Giang said that she has had a passion for this subject since she was a child. "The reason is very difficult to explain. But maybe math is not as dry as people think. Instead, math brings a very mysterious feeling. Because of the mystery, it makes me in particular and those who love math in general curious, wanting to explore the beauty within. And I love math because this subject helps in many things in life. For example, it helps to organize one's thinking logically, going from the core of the problem, from there finding a solution...", Quynh Giang shared.
Beautiful and talented Gen Z girl
Because of her love for math, Quynh Giang has received a series of valuable achievements, awards, and scholarships. When she took the high school entrance exam, she was the valedictorian of the math subject at Ben Tre High School for the Gifted, Ben Tre Province. She then received scholarships from the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, the Vietnam Rencontres du Vietnam, etc.
In addition, Quynh Giang won first prize in the Ben Tre province math competition, was a member of the national math team, won a bronze medal at the 30.4 Olympics, won a gold medal at the Phuong Nam Summer Camp Olympics...
And most recently, the only female contestant of the Foreign Trade University team in Ho Chi Minh City has excelled and become the only female student to receive a special prize in the 30th Mathematical Olympiad for students organized by the Vietnam Mathematical Association in collaboration with other organizations.
Quynh Giang said she loves math.
Goal: graduate from university with honors
Currently, Quynh Giang is a third-year student majoring in foreign economics. In addition to studying at the lecture hall, Quynh Giang also works as a math and physics tutor for middle and high school students in the evenings.
"I always allocate a reasonable schedule to balance between studying, working part-time and spending time for myself. I often arrange work according to importance and prioritize tasks with high importance. In particular, I do not let part-time work affect my studies," Quynh Giang shared and demonstrated with the achievements that she was happy to achieve in recent years such as: receiving the school's scholarship to encourage learning for students with good academic performance in all 4/4 semesters; being a 5-good student at the school level for 2 consecutive years, winning 3rd prize in the 2024 Grassroots Scientific Research Student Competition...
Sharing her experience with her peers as well as first and second year students, Quynh Giang said: "To study well at university, the first thing is to have a high spirit of self-study. Besides, the university environment also requires many soft skills such as: teamwork, presentation, time management... Therefore, in addition to self-improvement of academic knowledge, it is also necessary to try to learn skills to be able to adapt and achieve the best results."
In addition to achieving many outstanding achievements in studying, Quynh Giang also actively participates in Youth Union activities. This girl is a student ambassador at many events and competitions organized by the school's clubs. And in addition to loving math, this third-year female student also has many talents that her friends admire. Especially her ability to play chess very well, draw extremely beautiful pictures...
Not only is she talented, this Gen Z female student is also praised by many friends for her lovely face. Quynh Giang participated in the Foreign Trade Charm - FTUCharm 2023 contest and became 1 of 6 contestants who received the golden ticket from the judges, going straight to the semi-finals.
Talking about her future plans, Quynh Giang said she will focus on completing her graduation thesis with the goal of graduating with honors. At the same time, she will participate in internships at companies to gain experience. After that, she hopes to work at multinational corporations.
Sharing her dream, this female student from Foreign Trade University in Ho Chi Minh City confided: "I hope to become a successful person, have a stable life and be able to support my parents."
Master Nguyen Hoang Huy Tu, lecturer at the Foreign Trade University in Ho Chi Minh City, who tutored Quynh Giang in algebra, commented: "Quynh Giang is a very good and hard-working student. She is also a very special case in this exam. Because it has been a long time since the Foreign Trade University in Ho Chi Minh City participated in the National Mathematics Olympiad for students. And the contestants are usually first-year students. Quynh Giang is already a third-year student. While math subjects are studied in the first year. When entering the second and third years, she studies economics subjects. That means Quynh Giang has missed two years, not "touching" math. But she has made a lot of effort to review from the beginning, participating in the school-level and national-level competitions. The special prize is a worthy result for those extremely great efforts".
