To realize that goal, Vietnam has joined most of the basic international conventions on human rights. Domestically, Vietnam has made efforts to build a national legal system, actively internalizing international principles and standards on human rights to ensure harmony between national law and international law.
However, besides the positive information that is the main stream, there are still many false, biased, and prejudiced assessments about Vietnam in the field of human rights.
Hostile, opportunistic, and reactionary forces always seek to exploit the country's existing problems, deepen its limitations, downplay its development achievements, deny the positive changes in people's lives, and slander to distort the image of Vietnam. The plots of those anti-government forces to go against the trend of the times will not fool anyone, because the reality of human rights in Vietnam and the achievements always prove the opposite.
Vietnam's election for the second time as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term with a high number of votes on October 11, 2022 is a testament to its achievements in ensuring and promoting human rights, and the international community's recognition and trust in Vietnam's prestige and commitments.
This is also a new step forward for the country in its efforts to implement the foreign policy of the 13th Party Congress and Directive 25 of the Secretariat on promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy.
Most recently, in the Joint Statement following US President Joe Biden’s historic visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the leaders of the two countries continued to affirm the importance of promoting and protecting human rights, in accordance with each country’s Constitution and international commitments, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and minimizing differences. The leaders of the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation to ensure that all people, including vulnerable groups regardless of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation and people with disabilities, fully enjoy human rights.
At the 53rd regular session, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on climate change and human rights proposed and drafted by Vietnam, Bangladesh and the Philippines.
At the 54th Session taking place in Geneva from September 11 to October 13, Vietnam continues to chair and coordinate with Brazil, India, WHO and member countries to have initiatives and proposals to contribute to promoting human rights not only in Vietnam but also in other vulnerable areas due to climate change, conflict, ensuring human rights and the 2030 Agenda.
Those practical and effective contributions demonstrate Vietnam's efforts and responsibilities as a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term, and are recognized by the international community.
This is an important driving force and orientation for Vietnam to continue to build and perfect policies and laws in the new period, and continue to coordinate with the international community to protect and enforce human rights in Vietnam under the guiding light of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
