According to SamMobile , recent leaks have revealed that Nintendo may be working on a new handheld console, most likely a smaller version of the Switch or Switch 2. Nintendo could call it the Switch Mini, Switch Micro, or Switch Pocket.
Nintendo may be making a mini version of the Switch
Specifically, an account of Nash Weedle on the social network X (formerly Twitter) revealed a patent of an unreleased Nintendo product, which has a design that looks quite similar to the Switch but still has some differences. Therefore, it is likely that it will be a miniature version of the Switch/Switch 2, even smaller than the Switch Lite.
Accordingly, one of the patents reveals that the device has the R, L, ZR, ZL, Home, and Capture buttons in different positions than the Switch. According to the post, this change saves a lot of space and makes the device more compact.
Additionally, in another filing, Nintendo has used magnets to attach the protective case to the back or front (screen) of the device. So it seems the company thinks players will carry this console more often than the Switch Lite. Another equally important detail is that the company is also working on a compact, refined cooling system.
Multiple Switch Mini-related patents surfaced on the X network
According to the leaker, the device will have a maximum battery life of 12 hours and will be compatible with cartridges. The leaker also claims that Nintendo will launch the Switch Mini/Switch Micro/Switch Pocket on February 16, 2024, with a price tag of $161.
However, everything is still just at the rumor level and we still have to wait for official confirmation from Nintendo.
