Special examination rooms in the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi

In this year’s 10th grade entrance exam, Hanoi had 9 candidates with broken arms, 3 of whom needed medical assistance. These candidates were arranged separate exam rooms.

According to information from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in this year’s 10th grade entrance exam, Hanoi had 12 candidates with health problems requiring special support. Of these, 9 candidates had broken arms, 2 had insulin deficiency requiring special support, and 1 candidate was born deaf and had to use a hearing aid.

The candidates with broken arms are from Hoang Mai, Cau Giay, Thanh Oai, Ha Dong, Ba Dinh, and Chuong My districts.

Two candidates needed medical assistance to administer insulin to take the exam at the Tho Xuan High School (Dan Phuong District). The remaining candidate was born deaf and had to use a hearing aid to take the exam at the Nguyen Van Troi High School (Chuong My District).

Candidates are arranged in separate examination rooms to best support them in taking the exam as well as ensure exam security.

Accordingly, candidates with broken arms will be assigned to grade 8 candidates to listen and transcribe the content of the test as they read it. The test will be recorded under the supervision of cameras and exam invigilators. Candidates who need medical assistance will have medical staff on duty to help them throughout the exam.

Ms. Do Thi Thu Phuong, Principal of Tran Phu Secondary School, Hoang Mai District, said that the school arranged two spare exam rooms on the 4th floor. However, when learning that two candidates had broken their arms taking the exam, the school moved the two spare exam rooms to the 1st floor to make it easier for the students to move around. On the day of the exam registration procedure and before the exam, the exam site staff also met and encouraged the students to do their best on the exam.

Having broken his arm just 3 days before the exam, Le Minh Quan, a student at Vinh Hung Secondary School (Hoang Mai District) said he was very worried because he could not write during the exam. “Luckily, the school supported me and assigned an 8th grade student to help me write my answers,” Quan shared. Taking the entrance exam to Hoang Van Thu High School, Quan said that when he broke his arm, he had to try even harder to complete the exam in the best way possible.

The person accompanying Quan in this exam is Nguyen Le Anh, an 8th grade student at Vinh Hung Secondary School. Le Anh said that she was very happy to be "chosen to entrust her with gold" but this was a very important exam so she was quite worried about completing the assigned task.

Like Quan, Nguyen Thanh Phat, a student at Thanh Tri Secondary School in Hanoi, also broke his right arm and needed an 8th grader to assist him during the 10th grade entrance exam. Phat said he and his assistant, Nguyen Gia Bao, had 4 days to practice together and get used to working together on the exam. “I tried my best to make sure I wrote down exactly what he read and followed the exam room regulations,” Gia Bao said.

Meanwhile, candidates with diabetes and insulin deficiency - a hormone that plays a role in lowering blood sugar - need a device connected to the phone to provide and transmit insulin. The test site has arranged for families to bring the connected device to the test room for a security check before the test, while being monitored and supported by medical staff, security, and test invigilators throughout the test. Candidates' families must also be on duty to promptly coordinate in handling any arising situations.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, this year's 10th grade entrance exam had the participation of more than 105,000 candidates. This morning, students took the Literature exam. In the afternoon, candidates took the English exam. The Math exam will take place tomorrow morning, June 9.
