(HNMO) - On the evening of May 13, in Da Nang, the Closing and Award Ceremony of the First Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF I) 2023 took place with the theme "Vietnam Integration".
Attending the closing ceremony were Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Phuong Nga, along with leaders and former leaders of central and local ministries, departments, branches, associations and unions.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development and Director of DANAFF I, said: Although it is the opening film festival, this event shows professionalism in the organization; the high quality of the films selected for competition and screening at the programs "Today's Vietnamese Cinema", "Japanese Cinema Spotlight", "Films about Vietnam" and the attraction of the activities in the event for the film industry and the public... DANAFF I has truly created its own mark as a young, fresh, vibrant film festival, promising a film festival brand with a place in the region.
DANAFF I has a total of 12 awards in 2 categories. The “Asian Film Award” category is decided by the Asian Film Jury. The “Vietnamese Film Award” category is decided by the Vietnamese Film Jury. Along with that is the NETPAC Award for the best Vietnamese film decided by the NETPAC Jury, selected from the Vietnamese Films in the competition and the Audience Award for the most favorite Vietnamese film voted by the audience among the films participating in the “Today’s Vietnamese Cinema” Program.
In the final results, in the category of “Vietnamese Film Awards”, the film “Mrs. Nu’s House” won the award for Best Vietnamese Film and the award for “Best Director” for director and actor Tran Thanh. Notably, the film “Brilliant Dark Night” (director Aaron Toronto) won the awards: Best Screenplay (screenwriter Nha Uyen and Aaron Toronto), “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” (actor couple Huynh Kien An and Nha Uyen); Special Award from the Jury of Vietnamese Films.
The NETPAC Award for Vietnamese Film was given to the film “Memento Mori: Land” (directed by Marcus Vu Manh Cuong).
The final results in the category of “Asian Film Awards”, “Best Asian Film” belonged to the film “Those Children in the Mist” (director Ha Le Diem); “Best Director” award belonged to director Kavich Neang of the film “White Building”.
“Best Actor” went to Mohsen Tanabandeh for “World War III” (directed by Houman Seyyedi). “Best Actress” went to Juliet Bao Ngoc Doling for “Glorious Ashes.” “Best Screenplay” went to “Joyland” (written by Saim Sadiq and Maggie Briggs).
"World War III" also won the Special Jury Prize of the Asian Film Jury.
