In the list, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City introduced 5 non-public social assistance facilities, including 4 facilities managed by the city and 1 facility managed by the district.
In addition to public social protection facilities, the above 5 facilities are social assistance facilities with good facilities, personnel, and management systems that the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City has introduced so that mothers in unavoidable circumstances can bring their newborn babies here to be raised.
This will limit the risk of people sending their children to the wrong place that is not well managed, leading to heartbreaking incidents like the recent incident at the Rose Shelter.
After the child abuse incident at Hoa Hong Orphanage was discovered, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City inspected and discovered that Chuc Tu Orphanage did not ensure conditions for raising children, so it also temporarily suspended the operation of 3 facilities of this Orphanage.
After that, the children of Hoa Hong and Chuc Tu Orphanages were taken to public social protection facilities under the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City for care and nurturing. As of September 9, the total number of children from Hoa Hong and Chuc Tu Orphanages that the four public social protection facilities have received is 131.
Currently, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City is managing 16 public social protection facilities; 1 educational facility (Herman Gmeiner School with 1,183 students) and 1 vocational training facility (City Vocational Training and Employment Support Center with 492 students); receiving, managing, caring for and nurturing 6,505 social protection beneficiaries.
According to data as of August 9, public social protection facilities under the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City are caring for 885 children under 16 years old, 1,792 elderly people, and 4,131 people with severe disabilities (including 2,506 mentally ill people).
