The defendants at trial
According to the case, from 2013 to 2021, Cuong, Nghia, and Giap had criminal records. While serving their sentences in prison, Cuong, Nghia, and Giap got to know each other. After being released from prison, from September 2022, Cuong repeatedly invited and discussed with Nghia how to seize property at the house of Ms. LTT and Mr. VVM in Buon Ho Town (Mr. M. is the chairman of the People's Committee of a district in Dak Lak). Accepting Cuong's offer, Nghia invited Giap to join the robbery.
At around 7:00 a.m. on October 14, 2022, after Mr. M. left home for work, Cuong stayed outside to keep watch while Giap and Nghia jumped over the fence and broke into the district chairman's house.
Entering the house, Giap and Nghia used electric batons to threaten and control Ms. T., forcing her to open the safe and take all the money and gold in the safe, worth more than 2.3 billion VND. After that, the subjects used tape to wrap Ms. T.'s hands and feet to tie her up and then escaped. Ms. T. suffered a fractured L3 vertebra, with a body injury rate of 23%.
After committing the crime, although he knew the amount of money he had robbed, when Cuong asked him to, Viet agreed to hide it.
