This is the first festival with a message of peace held in Quang Tri and Vietnam, contributing to enhancing the position and image of the country and people of Vietnam; building Quang Tri into a destination for peace, a meeting place for peace-loving friends from all over the world.
The festival with the theme "Joining hands to build a peaceful world" will officially open on the evening of July 6 at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai River Special National Monument. The opening art program will feature many artists performing on the music stage, combining live performances on the riverbank and under the river, connecting the two North - South axes of the Ben Hai River through the historic Hien Luong Bridge. The program is a highlight to honor and connect the value of peace, highlighting the meaning of the festival.
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Hung said: Quang Tri is a land rich in cultural and historical traditions, with an important strategic position in the cause of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people. This place was once considered a "battlefield", "border town", "fence" and was chosen as the capital of the country three times. During the resistance wars for national independence, Quang Tri was the place that suffered much pain, sacrifice and loss, and witnessed many cruel and destructive scenes of war.
Mr. Vo Van Hung stated: In the "sacred land where the flower of peace has bloomed", Quang Tri has revived and risen above the ashes of war, in a world of peace and integration. Quang Tri has cherished the Project to organize the Festival for Peace for 5 years to honor the value of peace; pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who died for the Fatherland, commemorate the victims of war; convey the message of the Vietnamese people's love for peace, and call on humanity to join hands to build sustainable peace in the world.

Speaking at the Press Conference, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong said: "Quang Tri is a land rich in historical traditions, especially a resilient land in the resistance war against the US with many revolutionary historical relics. The initiative to organize the Festival for Peace from a land that suffered much pain from war demonstrates the aspiration to rise up and the love of peace of the country, the Vietnamese people in general and the people of Quang Tri in particular. The festival is a meaningful activity, containing many messages about historical and revolutionary values, towards peace, creating a premise to help the locality attract tourists, develop tourism, contributing to promoting the economic, social and cultural development of the locality".
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong hopes that the 2024 Festival for Peace will be a vivid demonstration of the aspiration when Quang Tri welcomes international friends, together building a peaceful, united and developed future, turning the painful past into a strong driving force for new steps forward.
The festival takes place on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of war and the restoration of peace in Indochina (July 20, 1954 - July 20, 2024), the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2024), towards the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). This is also a national and international cultural, sports and tourism event and activity in the period 2024 - 2025.
The festival includes a series of activities and unique art programs, creating an emotional highlight "bringing the whole world of peace to Quang Tri" - a land that has become a symbol of the desire for peace, healing and revival. Including the Cycling for Peace Festival (June 29 - 30) at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Monument and the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel National Monument. It is expected that about 1,000 athletes will participate. Along with that is the Cultural - Culinary Festival "Taste of the sunny flower land" (from July 12 - 14) at Cua Viet beach resort, Gio Linh district; Trinh Cong Son's music night "Peace Song" and international music exchange. The program "Peace Wish" will take place on the evening of July 26 with a memorial service (Quang Tri Ancient Citadel); a grand requiem ceremony (Liberation Square) and a flower lantern ceremony (South bank of Thach Han River).

There are also many response activities such as the political art program "Parallel 17 - Desire for Peace" produced by Nhan Dan Newspaper on the evening of July 19; Marathon "Journey to the Land of Fire" from June 15-16; Cultural Festival of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups; national sports competitions, International Trade Fair "Trans-Asia Bridge"...
The Festival for Peace will be an open festival, with only an opening day with a series of activities and no closing day. The Organizing Committee hopes that this will be a completely new and unique tourism product, initiated by Quang Tri, with the community joining hands to create value.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee announced the Festival's identity with the main image being a dove holding a rice flower, representing the desire for peace, prosperity and happiness. Three silk ribbons (red, yellow, blue) blend together, lifting the dove's wings, carrying the aspiration for peace and strong development of Vietnam to the world.
The main image of the Quang Tri province logo is shown on a peaceful blue sky, the image of the red flag flying proudly on the flagpole of the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Monument and the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Special National Monument.
