On the morning of September 8, in Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang), the 2023 Architecture EXPO Exhibition with the theme "Architecture - Creating sustainable spaces for the community" was officially opened.

At this conference, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Minister of Construction, said that currently the country has about 889 urban areas, with thousands of new urban areas with renovated, upgraded, and newly built infrastructure; tens of thousands of works and clusters of works with diverse and complex functions.

The architecture of many rural areas has demonstrated the criteria of “Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful”. In particular, Vietnam develops green architecture, sustainable architecture, friendly to the natural environment and people to adapt to climate change.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Minister of Construction, said that the architecture industry still has shortcomings and inadequacies that must continue to be overcome in the coming time.

“We have been making efforts to develop smart cities to suit new trends, serve and create better living conditions for people. With these efforts, Vietnamese architects have achieved many successes, with more and more architectural works winning national and international awards,” said Mr. Nghi.

However, the Minister of Construction said that Vietnamese architecture still has shortcomings and inadequacies that must continue to be overcome in the coming time.

According to the Minister, many urban areas are developing in an unsynchronized and patchy manner; there are still inadequacies between conservation and development. Urban areas lack green spaces, public spaces, water surfaces, etc.

The construction industry is developing unsynchronized, and the architecture is still fragmented and fragmented.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi emphasized that urban architecture is developing rapidly and diversely, but is still unfamiliar with national culture, copied and does not really have its own identity; existing neighborhoods have patchwork, hybrid architecture, encroaching on common space and do not have urban highlights.

Meanwhile, rural architecture tends to be concrete and stereotyped; the management, preservation and promotion of typical and traditional architecture, values of nature, landscape, space and local indigenous culture in the development of rural architecture are not really effective or have not been properly valued.

The Minister commented: Vietnamese architecture will continue to face many major challenges in the country's new development phase - the phase of sustainable development and deep integration of the country with traditional and non-traditional challenges.

Therefore, the requirement to preserve, inherit and promote traditional architectural values along with building an advanced, modern Vietnamese architecture imbued with national identity needs to be carefully studied and further concretized with selective absorption, application of science and technology, use of new materials, environmental protection, and economical and efficient use of resources and energy.

New opportunities and requirements require Vietnamese architects, research and training institutions, investors and state management of architecture to pay attention, make new approaches, have appropriate and effective orientations and solutions.

Through the 2023 Architecture EXPO Exhibition, the organizing committee wishes to recognize the dedication and great achievements and contributions of Vietnamese Architecture and Vietnamese architects as well as continue to research and seek new directions and new solutions in terms of theory, creation, training and management for the development of Vietnamese Architecture to take advantage of opportunities, solve practical challenges and meet the requirements of serving the people and serving the sustainable development of the country.
