After the first successful organization in 2022, the Thanh Nien Open Billiards Tournament has returned in 2023 on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. However, this year's tournament only organizes the 3-cushion carom content, a content that is very developed and receives the attention of many people who love colored balls.

The new feature of the 2023 tournament is the application of a different competition format than usual. Accordingly, the players will be determined by the PBA style of play (a very attractive tournament in Korea). Accordingly, the shots that touch the frame first will be counted as 2 points. This is considered a factor that pushes the drama to the climax in billiards matches.
Yesterday morning (June 22), the draw ceremony for the 2023 Thanh Nien Open Billiards Tournament took place. This year's tournament gathered 48 players, including reporters, editors from press agencies, sponsors, partners, and guests... Notably, this time the guests are talented "beauties" of Vietnamese billiards such as Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi (2023 SEA Games silver medalist in 3-cushion), Le Thi Ngoc Hue (2023 SEA Games gold medalist in 1-cushion), Phung Kien Tuong (2023 SEA Games silver medalist in 1-cushion and bronze medalist in 3-cushion), Nguyen Le Lien Quynh (who competed at the LPBA tournament - Korea).
At the 2023 Thanh Nien Open Billiards Tournament, each athlete will be allowed to compete in at least 2 matches, meaning that even if they lose in the first match, they can still advance to the next round. This decision by the tournament organizers comes from the desire to create more opportunities for athletes to compete.
Accordingly, 48 players will be divided into 24 pairs. The 24 winners will enter the round of 32. The 24 losers in the first round will be divided into 12 play-off pairs to find 12 more names to continue. Of the 36 names that make it to the next round, the organizers will randomly draw 4 players to play 2 matches to choose 2 winners and participate in the round of 32. To increase the professionalism of the tournament, the organizers also stipulate that each match will be limited to 20 turns and the time for players to make their turns is 40 seconds.
After the draw, many very attractive matches appeared right from the first round. In particular, Phung Kien Tuong will face Nguyen Thai Nguyen (Bronze Medalist of the 2022 Thanh Nien Billiards Tournament), Nguyen Van Tri (representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation) will face Nguyen Duc Yen Sinh (female player who reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 National 3-cushion Championship), Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi will face Nguyen Minh Tam (Viet Value Company), Le Thi Ngoc Hue will face Nguyen Quyet Thang (HTV). Notably, the two reigning champions of the 2022 Thanh Nien Billiards Tournament, Nguyen Minh Tam, will face Nguyen Huy Hoang (3-cushion, VOV).
On June 23, players will begin competing in the first round and play-off. Then, the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will take place on June 24 at Nguyen Du Stadium (HCMC).
