On the morning of April 21, within the framework of the 3rd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, an exchange with writer Nguyen Nhat Anh took place at the main stage of Cong Xa Paris Square (District 1).

Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh is the reading culture ambassador of Ho Chi Minh City in 2024. Many readers of all ages attended the exchange with him.

Going to the bookstore is like going to heaven

To inspire a love of reading in children, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh believes that there needs to be resonance, coming from many sides.

"In the family, if parents care about their children's reading or if parents love reading, that passion will automatically be passed on to their children.

Book festivals like this also play an important role in promoting reading," he shared.

On special occasions, adults can also buy books as gifts for children.

Building more libraries in remote areas is also a way to help children have closer access to books.

Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh said: "As a writer, we try to write well and attractively to attract readers to the book.

That is the work we do every day. Each side, in their role, will contribute to creating a connection between books and young readers."

He told readers about the first time he stepped into a bookstore and learned that there was a place in the world that had so many books:

"I felt like I was entering a magnificent, majestic, and extremely sacred temple. I just walked around cautiously, not daring to breathe heavily.

I felt the happiness at that moment was like when I set foot in heaven.

As for young people in big cities, there are more bookstores and more book festivals, so I believe their happiness is much greater than that of previous generations."

Uncle Anh is an idol

One of the messages of the 3rd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day is "read good books, buy real books".

The story of fake books and real books is still mentioned a lot. Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh is one of the names that often has fake books.

Confiding to readers, he shared: "Books play a special role in human life.

Although they are both material products, what makes books different from sandals or cars is that they also carry spiritual value.

Therefore, if you read fake books, the value will be greatly reduced.

Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh jokingly said: "I think the way to end a relationship quickly is to give your lover a fake book on his or her birthday."

During the exchange, young readers also asked writer Nguyen Nhat Anh many questions about his writings and inspiration for writing books.

Reader Do Ngoc Uyen is a teacher in charge of taking her students on a tour of the book street. Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online, she said she was very happy to have seen writer Nguyen Nhat Anh in real life.

"Uncle Anh has been my idol since I was little. I love reading and her books have been my close friends since childhood until now" - Uyen shared.
