According to Dzair Tube , the ceremony held at the Government Palace on November 11 marked the transfer of power to Mohamed Nadir Larbaoui from his predecessor Aïmene Benabderrahmane, who was appointed Prime Minister of Algeria in 2021.
Speaking on behalf of the Algerian presidency, spokesman Samir Aggoune highlighted the outstanding qualifications of veteran diplomat Larbaoui and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute to the country's progress. Larbaoui's appointment also reflects the government's commitment to recruiting experienced and competent individuals to lead the North African nation to a prosperous future.
Mr. Larbaoui, 74, is a seasoned diplomat. He assumed the positions of Algerian Ambassador to Pakistan, Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League in October 2019, and led the Algerian negotiating team to finalize the Convention on the Delimitation of the Maritime Boundary with Tunisia, signed in Algiers in July 2011.
After finishing his term as Ambassador in Cairo, he became an advisor to Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra. His success in garnering support for Algeria's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council reflected his diplomatic dexterity.
Prior to assuming the role of Director of Cabinet Affairs at the Algerian Presidency from 18 March 2023, Mr. Larbaoui served as Algeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, continuing to demonstrate extensive experience in the international arena.
