After turning the tables and winning against Wang Yangbei in the first leg of the semi-finals, the reigning Chinese chess champion, Grandmaster Jiang Chuan, drew with the Vietnamese player in the second leg of the semi-finals today. This result helped Jiang Chuan win the final against Wang Yangbei with a score of 1.5-0.5, earning the right to play in the final against player Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang.
Jiang Chuan easily entered the final after a draw with Wang Yangbei in the second leg of the semi-finals.
In the remaining semi-final, Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang unexpectedly defeated the reigning Vietnamese champion Lai Ly Huynh. After being held to a draw by Nhat Quang in the first leg of the semi-final, Lai Ly Huynh continued to be highly regarded in the second leg. However, Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang's dangerous move of disposing of the cannon and taking away 2 elephants in the middle game made Lai Ly Huynh think for quite a while. After that, Vietnam's number 1 player gradually lost the upper hand before being checkmated by the Ho Chi Minh City player with 2 rooks.

This surprising victory helped Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang win 1.5 - 0.5 against Lai Ly Huynh, earning the right to play in the final match with Tuong Xuyen to compete for the championship with a prize of up to 25,000 USD (about 600 million VND). Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang is the 2022 Vietnamese chess champion, but he was not named in the Vietnamese chess team participating in the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia last May. He was called back to the Vietnamese chess team in the latest training session to prepare for upcoming international tournaments such as the Asian Championship, ASIAD 19, and World Championship.
