But in the end, he chose Amazon.com as the company's name and website address. According to Bezos, the idea came to him when he looked it up in the dictionary and liked the name "Amazon" because it sounded "weird and different." Amazon is not only the name of a tropical rainforest but also the name of the world's largest river. Bezos said he intended for Amazon to become the world's largest bookstore.
