(Dan Tri) - Hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat, beating up to 160 times/minute, and continuously fainting, a 48-year-old woman in Can Tho was treated by a doctor using a new technique, and her health stabilized after one hour of treatment.
On February 14, information from Can Tho Central General Hospital said that the hospital's doctors had just successfully performed 6 electrophysiological ablation cases. The treatment process had professional support from doctors from Cho Ray Hospital.
On the same day, Can Tho Central General Hospital announced the establishment of the Arrhythmia Treatment Department under the hospital's Cardiovascular Center.
A typical case is female patient D.TKN (48 years old) who was hospitalized with a rapid heart rate of up to 160 cycles/minute, sweating, and continuous fainting.

Ms. N. has a history of occasional palpitations, rapid heartbeat, and sweating. Recently, this condition has become more frequent and severe, causing the patient to faint several times.
Through diagnosis, the doctor determined that Ms. N. had atrial fibrillation - Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome with hemodynamic disorders. The patient was treated with electrophysiological cardiac ablation technique.
After synchronized cardioversion, the patient's heart rate returned to 80 beats per minute. The intervention lasted 60 minutes, and drug re-examination showed no recurrence.
Dr. Than Hoang Minh, in charge of the Department of Arrhythmia Treatment, Can Tho Central General Hospital, said that WPW syndrome is especially dangerous in cases of atrial fibrillation, related to the existence of an abnormal conduction pathway, with clinical manifestations of very rapid heart attacks.
The leaders of Can Tho Central General Hospital said that in recent years, the demand for cardiovascular treatment of people in the Mekong Delta region has been very high. Given this reality, since 2019, the hospital has trained doctors and purchased equipment to prepare for the establishment of a Cardiac Arrhythmia Treatment Department.
Since then, hospital doctors have placed temporary and permanent pacemakers in about 1,500 patients.
In addition to internal medicine examination and treatment, the hospital has recently performed specialized techniques such as: Electrophysiological examination and ablation, pacemaker programming, tilt table testing, full feeding testing, exercise testing, 24-hour heart rate monitoring, etc.
In the coming time, after the Arrhythmia Treatment Department is established, the hospital will deploy additional techniques including: Defibrillator placement, myocardial resynchronization device placement, conduction system pacemaker placement, wireless pacemaker placement, 3D system electrophysiological examination and ablation, programmed cardioversion...
