Semen contains many components including sperm, proteins, and enzymes. When in contact with the female genital mucosa, the components in semen can become an allergen that causes allergies in some women with allergic constitution.

Sperm allergy can cause local reactions within minutes or hours of exposure. Symptoms include red rash, itching inside the vagina, outside the labia or around the anus. Many cases include hives, facial swelling, swelling of the arms or legs or rash. More severe cases can cause systemic reactions, even anaphylactic shock.

For people with this disease, sperm can be inhibited, condensed or inactivated by the woman's antibodies, unable to move into the uterus to perform the fertilization function. "Even if you try to have sex without using a condom, you still have the risk of infertility," the doctor said.

In this case, the couple can still have sex and use condoms to reduce discomfort. However, if they want to have children, the husband needs to intervene with the method of injecting sperm into the uterus (IUI). Thanks to that, the husband's sperm is washed and injected directly into the uterus instead of having natural intercourse.

Doctors recommend that women who experience unusual signs after sex such as swelling of the tongue or throat, itching and burning in the genital area, skin rash, nausea, wheezing, dizziness should go to a specialized medical facility for examination and early treatment to avoid the risk of infertility.
