Seeing the curious eyes of the little passenger next to her, Rubin decided to spend the remaining time on the flight knitting the little girl a small hat.
On a January 6 flight from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, back home to New Jersey after a trip, Jake and Kelly were worried that their 5-month-old daughter Romey might cry and disturb other passengers during the 5-hour flight.
But Romey is very good and ends up receiving a surprise gift from the passenger sitting next to her, Meegan Rubin, who is traveling with her boyfriend.
Rubin, from Pennsylvania, was knitting a sweater when little Romey's curious eyes caught her attention. "She was staring at me curiously, as if fascinated by the knitting movements," she recalled.
After finishing the sweater, Rubin looked at the baby, calculated the remaining time of the flight, and decided to take on a new "project": a baby beanie, which she had just enough yarn left. She hoped to finish it in about an hour.

Minutes after the plane landed, Rubin turned to Jake and Kelly, exclaimed, "Done!" and handed the couple a small cream-colored beanie.
"We were completely shocked, extremely emotional, as were the passengers around us. I was almost in tears," Kelly said.
Rubin learned to knit during the Covid-19 pandemic. She often knits for family and friends, but considers herself a "newbie." "Seeing the look in little Romey's eyes and how patiently the couple cared for her, I told myself I had to make a hat. It's nice to give back," Rubin said.

Kelly decided to share the story on social media. Kelly's TikTok video quickly went viral, attracting 7.8 million views and thousands of comments.
"Miss Rubin reminds me that there are still good people in the world," one user wrote.
