On November 29, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam - General Director of Vietnam Television (VTV) - presented the decision to appoint Ms. Bui Thu Thuy - Deputy Head of Entertainment Program Production Department to be in charge of managing the Entertainment Program Production Department.
Ms. Bui Thu Thuy will run the Entertainment Program Production Board from December 1, 2024.
The "Soul" of the Sunday Home Program
Journalist and editor Bui Thu Thuy was one of 20 people who passed the entrance exam to VTV3 when the channel was just separated from the airwaves in 1997. Sharing with the press, she said that she had just graduated for a year and was working at a magazine when she applied to VTV3.
“My application was also introduced by a close friend of mine who was working at VTV1 channel. At that time, I had just graduated from school and was dreaming of becoming a prominent newspaper reporter when I suddenly switched to television.
Journalist Nguyen Hanh, who was in charge of selecting the initial profile at that time, noted the highlights in my profile such as: valedictorian of journalism, graduated with honors... so I got noticed (laughs).
But what impressed her more and I only found out later was that I wrote a very modest application, the gist of which was that I hoped VTV3 would give me a chance to try out…” - Editor Bui Thu Thuy recounted.
BTV Thu Thuy is famous for her role as MC of the program "Sunday at home".
Sharing about her first days working at VTV, BTV Thu Thuy said: "In the beginning, I remember feeling very excited, confused and then passionate about the job. At that time, I had switched from writing to journalism, so from working individually, I was transferred to working in a group. VTV3 was also very new at that time and we had many different jobs. Although it was very hard, I always found working in television very interesting."
After that, she became a familiar face to many television viewers through the program At Home Sunday, one of VTV's family television programs.
The program was broadcast on VTV3 every Sunday afternoon from January 4, 1998 to December 30, 2007, in the form of a television game show with the participation of families. In the beginning, the program was produced in a "pure Vietnamese" format, then switched to German copyright production from 2005.
At that time, Sunday at home was one of the most popular game shows. The games that connected the feelings of family members, the useful knowledge and tips for housewives made this program an indispensable spiritual food every Sunday afternoon.
With her natural and intelligent hosting style, female MC Thu Thuy, who has been accompanying O Nha Chu Nhat for 9 years, is considered the soul of this program.
When asked about her memories during her time as MC for Sunday At Home, she shared: “I am a person who loves to share. I want everyone to know about the best things. I really enjoyed the time I did this program because I found little tips through life experiences as well as reading books and newspapers, and I applied them to guide everyone in the Sunday At Home program.
Then the audience will give me feedback on how successful they were in using those tips. That's when I feel happiest."
She participated in directing the production of many famous programs: "Choose the right price", "Secret window", "Magic hat",...
After that, she continued to participate in directing the production of many famous programs such as: Let's choose the right price, Secret door, Magic hat, Road to Olympia, Golden bell... In addition, MC Thu Thuy was also in charge of VTV's training department.
Received Australian Prime Minister's Scholarship
However, there was a time when BTV Thu Thuy suddenly disappeared from television. In 2011, she received the Australian Prime Minister's Endeavour Scholarship for Asian candidates. She decided to put her job at Vietnam Television aside to study for a PhD at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.
Sharing about this decision, Editor Thu Thuy said: " I really like to study, to know and apply knowledge to work. In 2009, our Board received a notice from the Personnel Organization Board about postgraduate training. Luckily, I "fit" that requirement.
I think Australia is a civilized country with a developed education system, I will definitely accumulate many interesting things for my career."
Editor Thu Thuy once studied in Australia.
Editor Thu Thuy once said that research helps her know more about the outside world of television and understand her television career better.
"I still occasionally work with my friends in Australia to make some reports on special occasions. At that time, VTV needed my support from Australia as well as connections for some production groups to use equipment and personnel here," said editor Thu Thuy.
After 4 years of studying in Australia, MC Thu Thuy returned to her homeland and continued working at Vietnam Television. "The further I go, the more I appreciate my colleagues. I sincerely hope for an environment where everyone can contribute and be recognized because I always understand that behind family, the workplace is where we live an important part of our lives, " the female MC shared.
Editor Thu Thuy is also one of the founders of the Australian Meat Rice program. From her idea, this charity model has spread to more than 10 other countries around the world.
