From the morning of February 3 (24th lunar month), about a week until the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, many people have started to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet, causing traffic gateways and airports to be congested.
Recorded at noon today at An Phu intersection, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway (Thu Duc City), traffic congestion lasted for a long time, the number of vehicles increased due to people taking an early Tet holiday.
At noon, not rush hour, the highway from Dau Giay to Ho Chi Minh City was jammed for more than 3km.
Authorities went down to the highway to regulate traffic and reduce the load on the highway.
At some intersections at the beginning of the highway, Nguyen Thi Dinh, and Song Hanh Street (Thu Duc City), traffic was congested and stuck with no way out.
Many people in neighboring provinces of Ho Chi Minh City also "carry bags" and travel by motorbike, weaving through traffic jams to return to their hometowns.
The line of vehicles stretched from the An Phu roundabout towards the Ho Chi Minh City - Dau Giay highway, the closer to noon the more vehicles poured into this area.
Meanwhile, from early morning in the area near Tan Son Nhat airport (Quang Trung street, Go Vap district), many people had difficulty moving because of the large number of vehicles arriving.
Similarly, the Cong Hoa street area connecting Binh Tan and Tan Phu districts was also congested at noon.
The driver appeared tired after being "stuck" for an hour in the midday sun on Cong Hoa Street.
Some vehicles drove onto the sidewalk to escape the traffic jam.
Traffic jams in Ho Chi Minh City during Tet are often very serious due to the increase in the number of people traveling in the city. Especially on gateway routes such as National Highway 1A, National Highway 13, National Highway 22.
The main cause of traffic jams is the increased demand for travel, combined with the opening of Tet goods for sale at locations outside the sidewalk area.
Around 12 o'clock at Hoang Van Thu street (Tan Binh district) from Tan Son Nhat airport to central districts.
At Tan Son Nhat airport, inside the domestic terminal waiting area, people lie and sit crowdedly waiting for their flight time.
"I was stuck in traffic for more than an hour on the way from District 2 to the airport. When I got to the airport, I had to wait in a long line to check in. The waiting room was packed and there were no seats. My flight was delayed for 6 hours. It was scheduled to depart at 9am but was postponed until 2pm," said Minh Nguyet, from Thai Binh.
