On the afternoon of August 29, the leader of Son Dong district, Bac Giang province, said that a landslide had just occurred in An Chau town, killing one person.
"Currently, the locality is directing the forces to handle the situation to prevent further landslides, and at the same time support the family to clean up the scene and arrange the funeral for the victim. At the same time, the District People's Committee will direct the police force to investigate and clarify the cause of the landslide to have a solution," he informed.
Previously, at around 1:30 p.m. the same day, Mr. Nguyen Thanh B. (born in 1958) and his wife Nguyen Thi Th. (born in 1962, in Ke residential group, An Chau town) were taking a nap in their house when they heard a loud noise.
Then, a large amount of soil and rocks from the neighboring hill collapsed onto the 7-room tiled house of Mrs. Th. and her husband, causing her to be pushed out by the entire wall; her husband, Mr. B., was trapped.
Immediately after receiving the news, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Dong district arrived at the scene, mobilizing 100 officers and soldiers from the district police, the district military command, militia, people and 2 excavators to search and rescue.
At 3:20 p.m. the same day, the forces reached the area where the trapped people were. Due to being crushed by a large amount of earth and rock, Mr. B. died.
