Long Doi Son Pagoda, also known as Doi Pagoda, is located on the top of Doi Mountain in Doi Son Commune, Duy Tien District, Ha Nam Province. According to historical records, the pagoda was built during the Ly Dynasty around 1054 - 1058 under the reign of King Ly Thanh Tong. During the reign of King Ly Nhan Tong, the pagoda continued to be built and developed, and the Sung Thien Dien Linh tower was built from 1118 to 1121. Over time and war, the pagoda was severely damaged. After peace was restored in the North, the local government and people actively carried out restoration. The major renovation in 1958 completed the main works here.
Because it is located on the top of a mountain, visitors who want to reach the temple will have to climb over 300 stone steps along the mountainside, with green tree canopies covering both sides.
As soon as you see the gate, you can feel the antiquity, moss stained with time and history.
Curved roofs and meticulously carved details
Passing through the three-door gate, visitors will encounter the Sung Thien Dien Linh stele - an ancient stele nearly 900 years old, considered a unique treasure of Doi Pagoda. The stele is considered a unique work of Ly Dynasty sculpture with a height of over 2.5 m, a width of 1.75 m, and a thickness of 0.3 m. Continuing to the back, visitors will come to the ancestral temple, the Tam Bao temple and the corridor with statues of the Arhats. The special thing is that on both sides of the road up, visitors will encounter small winding paths leading to the mausoleums of the abbots at the temple, where dozens of towers lie interspersed under the canopy of ancient trees.
Because it is located on the top of the mountain, Long Doi Son Pagoda is completely isolated from the modern life outside. Stepping into the pagoda, visitors will only hear the sound of birds chirping somewhere or the sound of footsteps stepping on rustling leaves, and immerse themselves in a peaceful, quiet atmosphere. With its outstanding historical and cultural values, at the end of 2017, the Long Doi Son pagoda relic complex was ranked as a special national relic by the Prime Minister. Doi Son Pagoda Festival is held annually on the 21st day of the third lunar month, attracting a large number of visitors.
