Hanoi Artist Tan Hoang, 60 years old, had severe chest pain while working in Bac Ninh, was taken to the hospital by colleagues for emergency treatment, "thought he would not survive".
"The pain felt like someone was squeezing my chest, I was sweating profusely, my throat was dry, I had to lie face down to feel comfortable," artist Tan Hoang recounted after waking up and said he had never experienced such terrible pain, on May 17.
He suddenly suffered a heart attack on the morning of May 16. With no relatives around, he struggled to leave the room to call his colleagues for help. About 30 minutes later, an ambulance took him to the 110 Military Hospital (Bac Ninh) for emergency treatment. Doctors diagnosed the patient with a heart attack and transferred him to Hanoi for surgery.
On the way to the hospital, the artist was still conscious. He said that he was very stressed lying in the ambulance because "this trip might not return", he was less worried about himself and more worried about his family because his children were still young.
"I'm not afraid of death, but deep down I still want to live to sing and contribute to the audience," the artist said, adding that on the way back to Hanoi he closed his eyes and chanted Buddha's name, not daring to look at the vital signs on the monitor screen for fear his heart would stop beating.
Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Head of the Cardiovascular Unit, Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Post Office Hospital, said the patient was admitted with severe left chest pain, pain spreading to the left arm and chin, difficulty breathing, and blood pressure dropping to 80/50 mmHg. Tests showed that the patient had a second-hour acute myocardial infarction. Coronary angiography results revealed a blood clot completely blocking the right coronary artery.
"The patient needs immediate intervention to re-open the blood vessels, otherwise the disease will progress severely, with a high risk of death," the doctor said. On the morning of May 17, the surgery was successful, the patient's left chest pain was gone, the shortness of breath was reduced, and vital signs returned to normal. The same afternoon, the patient was discharged from the hospital, continued to be monitored and took medication at home.
