On the evening of October 15, the 2023 folk music concert "Cross-border friendship" took place at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

Starting in 2015 in Thailand, the orchestra's journey has passed through Malaysia, Singapore, China, and Indonesia. This year's destination is Vietnam. This project has become a playground for the younger generation to share, learn, develop, and preserve traditional ASEAN music.

At the concert, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Anh Tuan, Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, said: The ASEAN Traditional Music Ensemble, consisting of 10 artists performing traditional instruments from 10 ASEAN countries, has gone through an exciting journey, introducing the unique features of the region's culture to many places around the world.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Anh Tuan said that today's concert is not just a simple art performance, the performances also contain messages about friendship and solidarity between countries. The concert also wants to show respect for traditional music in general; promoting, introducing and preserving traditional music is an extremely necessary task, ensuring that future generations continue to have the opportunity to enjoy this beauty.

“I really appreciate the idea of the ASEAN Traditional Music Ensemble, which aims to discover, train and develop young musical talents from many countries in the region, nurturing future talents,” Associate Professor, Dr. Le Anh Tuan affirmed.

At the concert, the audience enjoyed 12 pieces of music with unique and diverse traditional melodies, performed by young talents representing ASEAN countries. The concert opened with a choir performance of the song “The ASEAN Way” (Composed by Kittikhun Sodprasert and Sampow Triudom, Lyrics by Payom Valaiphatchra, Arranged by Watchara Pluemyart). This is the official song of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

After that, the audience enjoyed special traditional music works from ASEAN member countries: Brunei, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Malaysia.

Vietnam’s representative attended the program with a very unique color, shown through the performance of artist Le Thuy Linh. Playing the traditional Vietnamese monochord, artist Le Thuy Linh performed two works “Homeland Bridge” and “Watching Rice”. These are songs that honor the homeland and the beautiful landscape of Southern Vietnam.

The ASEAN Traditional Music Ensemble "Friendship Across Borders" has brought wonderful musical experiences and contributed to the development and solidarity of the ASEAN region. Because ASEAN countries are cooperating for an ASEAN culture full of identity, diversity in unity, which is the noble goal that the Governments and people of ASEAN countries have been aiming for./.
