During the severe cold spell from January 22 to 30, in the districts of Ky Son, Que Phong, Con Cuong, Quy Chau, Quy Hop... the temperature dropped low, in some places the temperature dropped sharply from 1 - 5 degrees Celsius, causing many livestock to die, affecting the economy of the people.

According to the report of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, as of January 30, the whole province had 78 livestock dead due to cold (35 goats, 5 pigs, 38 buffaloes and cows). Of which, Ky Son had 28, Con Cuong had 18, Que Phong had 30, and Quy Hop had 2.
Ky Son district is the locality with the largest number of cattle and buffaloes dying during the recent cold spell. Mr. Tho Ba Re - Vice Chairman of Ky Son District People's Committee said that before the cold season, the district issued telegrams, official dispatches... directing localities to implement solutions to prevent hunger and cold for livestock.
Through inspection, it was found that localities proactively issued documents directing the prevention of severe cold, and at the same time established inspection and direction teams in villages and hamlets to propagate and urge livestock farmers to implement solutions to prevent hunger and cold for livestock. However, due to the severe cold, which occurred suddenly, it caused damage to livestock.

Based on the damage to livestock caused by the cold, localities have requested the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue to consider declaring a severe cold disaster from January 22 to 30, 2024 to support people in restoring production, said Mr. Tho Ba Re./.
