AFP news agency reported that in a statement, the Israeli army accused Mohammed Shahine of planning to attack the country from Lebanese territory.

According to Lebanon's official news agency, this Israeli airstrike targeted a vehicle in the coastal city of Sidon.

The move came just one day before the deadline for Israel to withdraw its troops under a fragile ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.

Faced with the above situation, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed concern that Israel might not withdraw all its forces by the deadline of February 18, and called on the parties that sponsored the agreement to put pressure on Israel to withdraw its troops on time.

After more than a year of persistent conflict, a fragile ceasefire between Israel and the Hezbollah movement has come into effect since November 27, 2024.

Under the deal, the Lebanese army will deploy in the south alongside UN peacekeepers as Israeli troops withdraw for 60 days, later extended to February 18.

Hezbollah forces will withdraw north of the Litani River - about 30 km from the border - and dismantle any remaining military infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
