During Tet, don't use your smartphone too much for this reason

Using smartphones continuously for long periods of time, many days in a row, has become "normal" for a large number of modern people. During Tet, users should take advantage of the opportunity to meet family and friends to change this bad habit, not only to communicate with people around them more but also to improve health, avoid some problems related to bones and joints, and even to improve mood.

Daily smartphone abuse has been proven to have harmful effects on both physical and mental health, but a recent study shows that excessive phone use can also harm seemingly unrelated body parts.

Specifically, a person who uses the phone too much will reduce movement or use other parts of the body. Lack of movement will cause a series of musculoskeletal problems, one of which is persistent pain in the knee.

Modern users are almost "glued" to their smartphones in their free time.

A recent study published by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) confirmed that users who look at their phone screens for more than 4 hours a day will rapidly increase the risk of muscle, bone and joint problems. Researchers also found a link between excessive phone use and knee pain. Josh Gordon - technology expert at Geonode confirmed: "When we constantly look down at our phones, the weight on our bodies changes and this will increase pressure on the knees."

This is true for other conditions caused by osteoarthritis due to a sedentary lifestyle. The human body is naturally designed to lubricate the joints when moving, and to keep the tendons, muscles, and ligaments stretched and flexible. Sitting (or being sedentary) for long periods of time disrupts that process, putting stress on the complex structures of the knee, leading to an imbalance.

In addition, the trend of being overweight due to lack of exercise due to continuous use of phones every day also causes additional problems for the joints, tendons or ligaments in the knees, causing the position of these parts to change improperly during the process of constantly looking down at the machine screen.

According to Phone Arena , a few years ago, there was a scientific study that showed that the act of looking down at the phone screen creates pressure equivalent to 30 kg on the spine, leading to neck problems when bending or holding the head in an unnatural position when texting, called "Text neck". Researchers at that time believed that leaning forward changes the curvature of the entire supporting structure, from the cervical spine to the neck muscles, shoulders, supporting ligaments... The same thing happens to the joints that bear the main load on the entire body.

In Vietnam, during the Lunar New Year, many people choose to rest and sleep to "regain strength" after a year of hard work, but this is also a rare occasion in the year for them to be able to stay away from their phone and computer screens, spend time on physical activities, communication... Therefore, experts recommend that users should reduce the time spent using their phones to reduce the risk of knee and muscle pain, and at the same time take advantage of this time to increase physical activity, real social connections, not virtual social network communication on the internet.
