Hanoi is experiencing a prolonged, severe heat wave, causing a sudden increase in electricity consumption. This poses many potential risks of incidents at certain times due to equipment operating in high temperature environments, overloaded power lines and transformer stations. EVNHANOI has increased its staff, on duty 24/7 to be ready to restore power problems as quickly as possible.

To avoid local overloads causing interruptions in power supply, EVNHANOI recommends that people, agencies, offices, production and business establishments... join hands to use electricity economically and effectively, turn off unnecessary electrical equipment and limit the use of high-capacity equipment during peak hours of the power system, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day.

According to EVNHANOI statistics, the average daily electricity consumption in the whole city in March was 58,336 million kWh, in April it was 61,542 million kWh, and in May it was 75,406 million kWh. Thus, the average electricity consumption in May increased by more than 22.5% compared to the average in April 2023.

By the end of May 2023, the remaining converted electricity output in the hydropower reservoirs of the entire system was 2.35 billion kWh, 1.736 billion kWh lower than the annual plan, of which the North alone was 1.23 billion kWh lower. Eight out of 12 hydropower reservoirs in the North had water levels equal to or near the dead water level.

In June 2023, the North is forecast to continue facing heat waves lasting nearly 2 consecutive weeks. It is expected that the load in the North and the national power system will continue to increase even higher in the coming days.
