On the morning of May 11, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport reorganized traffic directions around the An Phu intersection in Thu Duc City to serve the construction of underground tunnels. Some minor congestion situations occurred but were quickly resolved.

According to Giao thong Newspaper reporters in the area, the construction contractor has begun to loosen the barriers to facilitate the construction of closed tunnel segments. The Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center has organized two-way traffic for motorbikes and one-way traffic for cars (inbound) on the parallel road of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, from Mai Chi Tho Street to Nguyen Thi Dinh Street.

In addition, cars traveling on Mai Chi Tho Street are also prohibited from turning left onto Luong Dinh Cua Street. To replace the old route, cars must go to the B overpass at the Cat Lai - Mai Chi Tho intersection to turn back onto Luong Dinh Cua Street.

The most important of the options is to prohibit cars and motorbikes from turning left from Mai Chi Tho Street to Dong Van Cong Street. Although the announcement was made on April 30, as of May 11, many motorbike riders still turned left at the intersection.

Mr. Nguyen Ba (42 years old, living in Dong Nai) said: "Because I haven't been to Thu Duc City for almost a month, I was very confused today. Seeing the instructions to go straight instead of turning left like before, I had to pull over to the sidewalk to look at the map again and ask for directions."

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the investor of the An Phu intersection project and the expansion of the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection, said that they have asked the joint venture contractor to arrange teams of 5-7 staff to assist with traffic flow and guide people. "This team will be present regularly in the first days with the Youth Volunteer Force to regulate traffic until people get used to the new travel route," said Mr. Pham Truong Giang - Deputy Head of the Road Project 2 Management Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.

On the first day of traffic adjustment, the Cat Lai Traffic Police Team under the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of Ho Chi Minh City Police also regularly patrolled the route. "Because it is an area with a high risk of congestion, on the first day of adjusting the route, the traffic police force mainly signaled to guide vehicles and reminded traffic participants, but did not impose fines," a Cat Lai Traffic Police officer shared.

By noon of the same day, due to the route and left turn lane of the bus routes from Mai Chi Tho to Dong Van Cong, the regulatory units on the route are asking for the opinion of the Department of Transport on temporarily reopening the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection.

However, buses shared lanes with cars and motorbikes, so they could not turn left, so the regulatory units are asking for the opinion of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.
