* Russian media: Ukrainian UAVs attack the South : On May 26, Russian officials and media said Ukraine attacked two regions in southern Russia with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Russian media said a residential building and an office in the city of Krasnodar were damaged.

“This conflict will last for a very long time, maybe for decades. It is a new reality, new conditions of life. * Ukraine claims to have repelled several Russian airstrikes : On May 26, the military agency of the capital Kiev stated: “Another airstrike on Kiev, the 13th in a row since the beginning of May. * Kazakhstan has no plans to join a union state : On May 26, writing on social networks, Mr. Ruslan Zheldibay - Press Secretary of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev wrote: "Kazakhstan has no intention and no plans to form or join any union state".
According to the Kazakh official, “the main message that (President) Tokayev sent was that integration within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) can and should only follow an economic path… Going beyond this framework is a violation of the goals and principles of the organization's charter documents.”
“As the President noted, economic integration is not an end in itself, but a means to economic development and improving the well-being of citizens. * France: Migrants arrested after clash with police : On May 26, prosecutors said French security forces arrested 38 migrants trying to cross the English Channel in small boats to Britain after clashing with police.
While patrolling the Oye-Plage area, outside Calais, on France's northern coast, French gendarmes were stoned by migrants, breaking the windshields of their off-road vehicles. * Chile appoints first ambassador to Venezuela in 5 years : On May 25, the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that President Gabriel Boric appointed former Senator Jaime Gazmuri as Chile's first ambassador to Venezuela since 2018.
Explaining the decision, Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren said that although Santiago had never severed diplomatic relations with Caracas, Chile had now decided to resume bilateral relations at the highest level. The senior official of the South American country also said that this was the right time to normalize relations with Venezuela to strengthen bilateral activities. Previously, in the past 5 years, Santiago had only had one charge d'affaires in Caracas.
Mr. Gazmuri is a Republican senator, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and member of the Finance, Economic, Housing, Defense, Agriculture and Labor Committees of the Maule Region from 1990 to 2010. He was also a member of the National Television Council (2011-2013) and director of the National Television of Chile (2019). The politician served as Chilean Ambassador to Brazil (2014-2018).
Notably, Mr. Gazmuri has extensive professional experience as a consultant for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Inter-American Development Bank and the Organization of American States.
