VnExpressVnExpress31/03/2024

Moscow announced the launch of an anti-terrorist operation in the Russian Republic of Dagestan and the arrest of three suspects who were plotting attacks.

Three suspects were detained in Makhachkala, the capital of the Republic of Dagestan, and the city of Kaspiysk, 10 kilometers (6 miles) south, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee said today. According to the committee, authorities found and confiscated automatic weapons, ammunition and homemade explosive devices at the suspects’ residences.

There were no casualties in the operation, the commission added. Two of the three suspects were in Kaspiysk.

Makhachkala Mayor Yusup Umavov said the "anti-terrorist alert" in the capital and Kaspiysk was lifted at 12:00 (16:00 Hanoi time).

The move comes more than a week after the Crocus City Hall theater, outside Moscow, was attacked on March 22, killing at least 144 people and injuring hundreds.

On the evening of March 29, the FSB announced that it had "prevented a terrorist attack by three citizens from the Central Asian country". The three suspects planned to bomb a public area in Stavropol province, more than 1,200 km from Moscow.
