On the morning of May 14, people quietly came to the funeral home of Military Hospital 103 to say goodbye to the four grandmothers and grandchildren who tragically died in a house fire on Thanh Cong Street (Quang Trung Ward, Ha Dong, Hanoi).
Four coffins were placed next to each other, with the portraits of the kind grandmother and her three grandchildren next to white wreaths, making witnesses feel heartbroken.
Mr. NQM (father of 3 children) had both hands bandaged, he was also injured when he tried to rush into the fire to save his mother and children. At the funeral, the man could not hide his pain and despair.
His wife was in deep shock, fainting repeatedly and was being cared for by relatives. Ms. H. was in extreme pain after losing her three young children, the youngest of whom was in preschool. When she saw her children for the last time, the mother cried in pain and kissed the coffin to say goodbye to them.
Tearful funeral of 4 grandmother and grandchildren who died in the fire.
Among the mourners were the children’s school friends. The image of the children holding white chrysanthemums to burn incense for their friend made the family, relatives and many people present at the funeral home cry.
A relative of the victim said that Mr. NQM and his wife had 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl. The eldest daughter is in 5th grade, the second is in 2nd grade and the youngest is in kindergarten this year.
According to this relative, Mr. M. is from Dong Anh, Hanoi. Mr. M.'s father passed away more than 20 years ago, and Mr. Minh's mother, Mrs. NTX (born 1965), worked hard to raise Mr. M. and his two sisters. After Mr. M. got married, Mrs. X. moved in with her son and helped him take care of the children.
“This shock was too great for my family, too painful that all four of us did not survive. I feel so sorry for the children because they were so young, all of them were well-behaved, studious and obedient,” said Mr. M’s relative.
Ms. M., a resident who came to pay her respects at the funeral, burst into tears and said that she did not know the victim's family, but her grandchild went to the same school as a child who died in the fire, so she came here to burn incense and say goodbye to the four of them for the last time.
“If the fire had happened on Friday, when the children were at school, this heartbreaking incident might not have happened. When I went inside to burn incense and saw the portraits of the three children, I couldn’t hold back my tears,” Ms. M. shared.
A parent could not hold back her tears as she recounted: “My child is in the same class as my second child. Yesterday, I saw the entire fire from the apartment building where I live. I feel so much pain and sorrow for my children. They have a whole future ahead of them, but now they have ended up like this. As an outsider, I cannot bear it, so how can their parents overcome this pain?"
At 11:10 a.m., the coffins of Mrs. X. and her three grandchildren were taken to the hearse. The family said they would take the victims to Van Dien Universal Crematorium to be cremated and buried in their hometown cemetery in Dong Anh district, Hanoi.
