Romania Insider reported that the exercise involved 2,200 soldiers, 135 ships, aircraft and vehicles from 13 NATO countries including Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, UK, Moldova, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Turkey, US and Romania.

Sea Shield 24, taking place from February 8-21, focuses on training in all aspects of military operations, aiming to increase the level of operational cooperation between participating parties.

"We have procedures for testing and development in anti-submarine, anti-surface and anti-aircraft warfare environments in the Black Sea and river areas," said Romanian Navy Chief of Staff Mihai Panait.

Previously, NATO's largest exercise in decades, Steadfast Defender, also began on January 24 and will last until late spring 2024, with a scenario that German media said would include an attack on alliance territory, leading to the activation of Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.

During its implementation, the military organization is expected to transfer a significant number of the bloc's troops and equipment to countries located in the region relatively close to Russia.
