The Telegraph (UK) quoted Admiral Bauer emphasizing the importance of acknowledging that peaceful coexistence between nations is not guaranteed and NATO must prepare for a range of threats.

Mr Bauer acknowledged the recent call by the Swedish government and called on other NATO member states to make similar preparations.

“We have to realize that we cannot take peace for granted,” Admiral Bauer stressed. “That is why we are preparing for conflict with Russia.”

The head of NATO’s Military Committee said the alliance must strengthen its industrial base and develop a system that would allow more people to be called up for service in the event of war. These measures would help NATO prepare for a variety of external challenges and threats, Bauer said.

Recently, ABC news agency reported that the upcoming large-scale exercise of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will simulate the beginning of World War III.

It is understood that the exercise will simulate an attack by the fictional enemy Occasus, which has similarities to Russia. 90,000 servicemen from all member states of the Alliance, including Sweden, which is in the process of joining NATO, will take part in the exercise. The locations of the exercise will be Germany, Poland, the Baltic States and the Arctic Ocean.

According to ABC , the exercise was highly precise and large-scale, suggesting it could be more significant than just routine exercises.

The Russian military website said that this NATO exercise is evidence of increasing tensions in international relations and the alliance's increased war preparations.

Earlier on January 18, General Christopher G. Cavoli - NATO's Supreme Commander in Europe - announced that NATO will begin its largest military exercise in decades next week, with the participation of about 90,000 troops from 31 member countries and Sweden.
