Biometric authentication payment technology… with just a smile
Bringing to Vietnam Card Day this year, in addition to familiar cashless payment methods such as NAPAS cards, VietQR codes, Tap to phone… NAPAS will introduce a payment feature based on user authentication technology through facial recognition – Smile to pay. Based on the application of biometric technology, users only need 1-2 seconds to recognize their face with a gentle smile to complete the transaction.

The solution is based on comparing and authenticating information from the national population database built by NAPAS and piloted with the first bank, PVcombank, and will be expanded to other banks in the near future.
With this breakthrough feature, customers can pay for shopping transactions by recognizing smiling faces for biometric authentication right on devices located at the connected store system without having to use cards or mobile phone applications to pay.
This process is done using Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology to connect information between the store's payment device/application and the customer's phone, ensuring that the processing of biometric information through the NAPAS BioPay portal is secure, safe, and matches C06 data before completing the payment transaction.

Launching a new line of "young" cards and countless attractive incentives from banks
It is expected that NAPAS will cooperate with VietinBank to launch the VietinBank Tre Connect domestic dual card line in November 2024 exclusively for students with attractive incentives of up to 15%. Specifically, when opening VietinBank Tre Connect, students will be refunded from 200,000 VND, 500,000 VND or even 1,000,000 VND with the corresponding accumulated spending values per month. Domestic cards (NAPAS cards) are payment cards issued by 64 Vietnamese banks and financial companies, with card numbers starting with 9704. Domestic cards apply advanced chip technology, implemented according to the VCCS standards issued by NAPAS, on the basis of conformity and compliance with the regulations in the State Bank's Basic Standards for domestic chip cards and international EMV standards.
Currently, NAPAS cards are accepted for payment at more than 761 thousand service providers that have installed payment acceptance devices (POS/ mPOS) of banks nationwide.
