(Dan Tri) - The research on a 4-legged robot model by student Le Minh Duc and his friend Nguyen Le Trung Kien is the world's first duck-foot design to be recognized at the world's largest STEM competition.
Le Minh Duc - a 12th grade math student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted - is one of 14 candidates recommended by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union for the title of Outstanding Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City 2023. Minh Duc has remarkable achievements not only in studying but also in initiatives in scientific research and robot manufacturing.

During the two years from grade 10 to grade 11, Duc excelled in achieving the title of excellent student with an average score of 9.3 and 9.8. In the 2022-2023 school year, Duc won first prize at the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students. In 2023, the senior student exploded with a series of achievements. After achieving the title of 3 Good Students at the city level in 2023, Duc is being considered for the title of 3 Good Students at the central level. In 2023, Le Minh Duc and his friend Nguyen Le Trung Kien won a series of awards from the city to the international level with their research project on "4-legged robot model to support search and rescue of people in landslide areas". The awards for this research include: Special Prize awarded by USAID for practical science and technology projects for application in disaster areas; is one of 7 teams representing Vietnam to participate in the REGENERON ISEF 2023 International Science and Technology Competition held in Dallas, Texas, USA. First prize of the VISEF National Science and Technology Competition, in the field of Robots and Smart Machines; Creative Youth Badge awarded by the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union to members with valuable initiatives, inventions, scientific research, technical solutions, and technologies; First prize of the Ho Chi Minh City Science and Technology Competition 2023. This is considered the first duck foot design in the world, thereby helping them to move in the muddy areas of landslides. This research product has received recognition from scientists around the world and has been highly appreciated for its humanity at the REGENERON ISEF 2023 World Science and Technology Competition - the largest STEM competition in the world. Minh Duc shared that this research was inspired by the heroic soldiers who died in the landslide at Rao Trang 3 Hydropower Plant in 2020. Feeling the pain of this loss and the difficulties of the rescue force was the motivation that urged the student to choose the direction of researching robots to support rescue work and perfect the product. With the goal of bringing "science closer to everyone", especially in the school environment, Minh Duc also actively supports, builds and inspires, contributing to spreading the love of scientific and technical research to students.

Currently, Minh Duc manages a group of more than 20 students who are passionate about robots and smart machines, kinematic robots, drones, automatic cars or 3D printing techniques... Through these activities, Minh Duc cherishes the possibility of nurturing a love of science in young people with the goal of bringing "science closer to everyone", especially in the school environment with the desire to take flight for research projects and contribute to creating products that go into practice.
