In 2023, Vietnamese people will buy nearly 370,000 new cars

According to the report of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the total sales of cars in the Vietnamese automobile market of member units in December 2023 reached 38,740 vehicles, an increase of 39% over the previous month. Of the total sales, 32,133 were passenger cars, up 43%; 6,407 were commercial vehicles, up 20.5%; and 200 were specialized vehicles, up 9% over the previous month. Regarding the origin of the vehicles, while domestically assembled vehicles sold 24,044 vehicles, up 33%, the sales of completely imported vehicles were 14,696 vehicles, up 49% over the previous month. Despite the outstandingly high end of the year, in 2023, member units of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association had a total sales of 301,989 vehicles of all kinds, down 25% compared to the previous year. It is worth noting that all three vehicle segments decreased sharply, passenger cars decreased by 27%, commercial vehicles decreased by 16% and specialized vehicles decreased by 56%. If we add the sales of a domestic assembly unit and not include imported brands, in 2023, Vietnamese people purchased a total of 369,439 new cars of all kinds, down 139,702 vehicles, equivalent to 27.4% compared to 2022. On average, the market consumed about 30,789 vehicles per month.

Vietnam's total import-export turnover in 2023 will reach more than 681 billion USD

The General Department of Customs has just announced that in 2023, the total import-export turnover of the whole country reached more than 681 billion USD, down 6.9%, equivalent to a decrease of 50.25 billion USD compared to the previous year. Of which, exports reached 354.67 billion USD, down 4.6% (equivalent to a decrease of 17.05 billion USD) and imports reached more than 326 billion USD, down 9.2% (equivalent to a decrease of 33.20 billion USD). Thus, in 2023, the whole country had a trade surplus of 28.3 billion USD.

In 2023, the total import-export turnover of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises reached more than 466 billion USD, down 8% (equivalent to a decrease of 40.49 billion USD) compared to the previous year. Of which, exports reached more than 257 billion USD, down 6% (equivalent to a decrease of 16.40 billion USD) and imports reached more than 209 billion USD, down 10.3% (down 24 billion USD). The total import-export turnover of domestic enterprises reached more than 214 billion USD, down 4.3% (down 9.75 billion USD) compared to the previous year. Of which, exports reached 97.46 billion USD, down 0.7% (down 649 million USD) and imports were more than 117 billion USD, down 7.2% (down 9.11 billion USD).

Enterprises must pay more than 277,000 billion VND in bond debt in 2024

According to data from the Vietnam Bond Market Association (VBMA), in December 2023, there were 55 private corporate bond issuances with a total value of VND 42,806 billion. The issuances had an average interest rate of 7.06% per year, with an average term of 5.97 years. For the whole year of 2023, the total value of corporate bond issuance was recorded at VND 311,240 billion, including 29 public issuances worth VND 37,071 billion (accounting for 11.9% of the total issuance value) and 286 private issuances worth VND 275,028 billion (accounting for 88.1%). Of which, banking is the industry group with the most issuances with VND 176,006 billion (equivalent to 56.5% of the total issuance value). The real estate group followed closely behind with VND73,202 billion (accounting for 23.5%). VBMA statistics also show that in December, businesses bought back VND32,677 billion, down 50.4% over the same period in 2022. In 2024, it is estimated that there will be about VND277,065 billion worth of bonds maturing. The number of bonds with late interest payments has decreased compared to the beginning of the year. Only 6 new bond codes announced late interest/principal payments with a total value of VND545 billion in December. This month, 8 bond codes were also extended with maturity periods extended mainly from 1 to 2 years, according to VBMA.

Lotte Mart supermarket chain said it will be closed on the first day of Tet, reopening from the second day with different hours depending on each location, and operating normally on the third day of Tet. KingFood Mart supermarket chain said it will close simultaneously from 6pm on the 30th of Tet and reopen from 8am on the 1st day of Tet. Representatives of GO! and BigC supermarket chains said that to support people in shopping, the system nationwide will be open until noon on the 30th of Tet and will resume normal operations from the 2nd day of Tet. Vissan Company said it will be closed on the first day of Tet, and will reopen normally on the 2nd day of Tet. To support people in shopping, the product introduction store system of this unit will increase the opening hours, specifically from 6am to 10pm on peak Tet days; on the 30th of Tet, it will serve until 5pm instead of 11am like previous years.
