White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on September 13 that the US has no plans to announce any new policy on Ukraine and the use of long-range missiles to attack Russian territory. Moscow has warned of direct war with NATO if Ukraine is allowed to launch long-range attacks on Russian territory.

“There has been no change in our position on providing long-range strike capabilities to Ukraine to target inside Russian territory,” Kirby told reporters.
White House officials confirmed that there would be no major announcement on the above topic after talks between US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the afternoon of September 13 (local time) at the White House.
For months, President Volodymyr Zelensky has been persuading allies to allow Ukraine to use Western missiles, including the US long-range Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) and the British Storm Shadows, to strike deep inside Russian territory.
The United States is taking seriously Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warning that Moscow would consider the West a direct party to the conflict in Ukraine if Kiev attacks Russian territory with Western-made long-range missiles, a White House official said. However, Kirby said this was not a new stance from the Russian leader.
Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Vassily Nebenzia declared on September 13 that if Western countries allow Ukraine to conduct long-range attacks on Russian territory, NATO member states will then "wage direct war against Russia."
Speaking before the UN Security Council, the Russian Ambassador warned: “The fact that NATO will become a direct participant in hostile actions against a nuclear power, I think you should not forget this and think about the consequences.”
