On April 11, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said that Russian-backed hackers used access to Microsoft to launch cyber attacks and steal correspondence between US officials and Microsoft.

CISA warns that hackers are using email to try to break into Microsoft customer systems, including some US government agencies (the exact number has not been verified).
CISA said the hackers may have also targeted non-governmental organizations, encouraging customers to contact Microsoft for more information. Accordingly, Microsoft is working with customers to help them investigate the incident and minimize damage.
The warning comes after Microsoft announced in March that it was still dealing with intruders dubbed “Midnight Blizzard.”
The news has set off alarm bells across the cybersecurity industry. Last week, the U.S. Cybersecurity Review Commission said that, had it not been for security flaws, Microsoft could have prevented a cyberattack believed to have been carried out by China.
The Russian Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to CISA’s disclosure. Moscow has previously denied being behind the cyberattacks.
