Thanh Binh commune currently has 679 hectares of natural forest, of which over 50% of this area is sa moc forest distributed in most villages and hamlets. With a large area of sa moc forest and mainly in villages located along National Highway 4, the preservation of the landscape sa moc forest is of great concern to the locality. According to Mr. Phung Huy Tuong, Chairman of Thanh Binh Commune People's Committee: With steep terrain and cold in winter, the protection of the sa moc forest area is of great significance. In addition to the purpose of protection and anti-desertification, in the future this will be a planned area for the conservation of forestry tree varieties of the district and the province.

Every year, the situation of small-scale exploitation by people still occurs. The commune government coordinates with the district Forest Protection Department to implement many solutions to encourage people not to exploit massively but to exploit and thin out to preserve the forest landscape and preserve the source of seedlings. However, because some forest areas are interspersed with people's cultivated land, management and protection work is facing many difficulties.

It is known that in order to expand the area of Sapong forest, since 2014, Muong Khuong district has sown more than 100 kg of this tree seeds to plant 200 hectares of protective forest and 200 hectares of production forest. In order to encourage households participating in forest planting to feel secure in doing a good job of planting and protecting the forest, the local government has allocated more than 500 million VND to support rice for households taking care of and protecting the forest area.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Doan Doanh Tien, Head of the Forest Protection Department of Muong Khuong district, said: Muong Khuong currently has 78,437 hectares of protective forest, of which the forest area with sa moc trees accounts for the majority. In the immediate future, to protect the sa moc forest area, especially in Thanh Binh commune, Muong Khuong town and the border communes of Din Chin, Pha Long, Ta Gia Khau (where there is a high risk of desertification), the department has requested the District People's Committee to direct the communes to step up propaganda so that people do not overexploit the sa moc forest area, and at the same time have incentive policies for people to preserve and protect the sa moc forest.

According to the plan, in 2024, Muong Khuong district will plant an additional 300 hectares of forest and implement the contract to protect more than 20,000 hectares of regenerated forest, many of which are sa moc forests, striving to achieve a forest cover rate of 44.67%. Hopefully, with the participation of local authorities and forest rangers, the sa moc forests in Muong Khuong will remain green forever.
