Coming to the North Central Fine Arts Exhibition, the public is attracted by the simplicity and familiarity when many works on display are inspired by the very familiar life of making a living and family activities.

“The image of the countryside with farmers harvesting crops appears realistically. The author does not describe much about the workers in the painting, but the bright yellow tones represent a bountiful harvest in contrast to the simplicity and quietness of the dark tones - where the farmers make viewers feel the beauty of their labor, although hard but still full of joy”, Hoang Van Thanh, a student at the University of Science, Hue University shared about the work “Rural Harvest Day” by artist Trinh Hoang Tan (Quang Tri province).

Harvest seasons are also a topic chosen by many authors. Using dark, contrasting colors, the work “Flying Dream” by artist Nguyen Luong Sang (Quang Binh province) takes viewers to a fishing boat, with the hard work of fishermen.

The images of hands that have gone through many hardships and winds, bare feet standing firmly against the waves and the boat, and the school of fish represent the wishes for successful offshore trips. The exhibition also introduces to the public the work “Herring Season” by artist Le Thuan Long (Quang Binh province) using handmade fabric. The image of a school of herring swimming happily in the ocean is skillfully depicted by the artist, and the new material also receives the sympathy of the viewers.

Society in the renovation period also inspires many authors. The image of the wharf at the Formosa factory (Ha Tinh), with cargo ships carrying and exporting goods day and night, was sent to the public by artist Nguyen Van Duong (Ha Tinh province) through the painting "Covered wharf" using colored powder.

The paintings “Port Street” (artist Ngo Duy Luong, Thanh Hoa province), “New Day Sounds” (artist Le Dan Te, Quang Binh province) or “Renewed Homeland” (artist Pham Thi Hong Dat, Quang Binh province) describe the work of people during the country's renovation period.

In particular, the work “New Rhythm of Life” by artist Nguyen Dinh Truyen (Nghe An province) brings the public to the beats and sounds of the period of industrialization and modernization of the country.

Using paper carving, the artist depicted workers creating roads and modern buildings. This is also one of two works that won the B prize at the exhibition.

The remaining B prize winner is the painting “Vi vu” by artist Hoang Thanh Phong (Thua Thien Hue province). The painting looks so “real” that some people think it is a photograph. The image of two pine cones lying on the ground reminds the public of the afternoons of wandering in youth, of endless thoughts, tangled and tangled like the way pine needles lie on the ground. The image of pine cones is also considered a symbol of life and happiness.

Images of soldiers also appear in the works at the exhibition. The works “Gifts to Truong Sa” (artist Ho Thanh Tho, Quang Tri province) and “We are soldiers on distant islands” (artist Le Trong Tan, Thanh Hoa province) are expressions of love sent to the soldiers at the forefront, who despite difficulties still stick to the land and sea to protect the country.

The work “The War” by artist Truong Minh Luyen (Quang Binh province) also moved viewers with the image of a firefighter selflessly rushing into the fire to rescue a trapped baby.

Ms. Mai Thi Ngoc Oanh, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, shared that although this year's exhibition does not have many new points in terms of development force (not many young artists participating), appearance (not many new genres), it has also created opportunities for artists to hone their skills, change their perspective, explore new things to escape from their comfort zone.

The works participating in the exhibition reflect the good traditional cultural values and socio-economic achievements of the homeland and country; thereby, creating spiritual and cultural values imbued with national cultural identity.

Mr. Ho Dang Thanh Ngoc, Chairman of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations, said that the exhibition is an opportunity for artists in the North Central provinces to meet and exchange.

“For artists, the exhibition is not only an opportunity to admire the works of colleagues to motivate them to continue creating, but it is also a source of encouragement for artists to continue developing their own careers.

Although circumstances and material conditions for creation are sometimes limited, artists still devote themselves to creating, exploring their inner world, and contributing their experiences and emotions to the public and society through their works," said Mr. Ho Dang Thanh Ngoc.
