Kien Giang A 39-year-old man, who suffered alcohol poisoning while drinking with a group of construction workers, died after two days of intensive care.
On August 22, specialist doctor Duong Phuoc Dong, Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning, Kien Giang General Hospital, said that the patient was poisoned by methanol - a type of industrial alcohol, and died due to severe metabolic acidosis (high blood acidity), slow heart rate, blood pressure, and nerve damage. The family asked to take him home to prepare for the funeral.
This person and a group of about 10 construction workers organized a drinking party after completing the project two days ago. They drank alcohol, then three people foamed at the mouth, had purple hands and feet, respiratory failure and were hospitalized in critical condition.
In addition to the deceased, one patient has a poor prognosis while the remaining case is recovering.

According to Dr. Dong, the ability to successfully treat alcohol poisoning cases usually depends on the amount of alcohol consumed, the time of hospitalization, and the physical condition of each person.
Dr. Dong warns that signs of alcohol poisoning from industrial alcohol can be easily confused with regular drunkenness. The distinctive, easily recognizable symptom is that the person with alcohol poisoning has blurred vision and nerve damage. Therefore, when detecting abnormalities, the person with alcohol poisoning must be taken to the hospital immediately.
