The female office worker shared: "For us women, gifts are not only material but also emotional. Through gifts, men also show their care and respect for their women."

Giving gifts to your significant other: Giving love or formality?

However, Mr. Anh Tuan, Ms. Tram's husband, thinks differently. He said that since their wedding, which has been 5 years, there are so many occasions to give gifts each year that "sometimes I don't know what to give my wife."

According to him, giving flowers is a waste because "they will wilt after a few days". Giving expensive gifts affects the family's finances.

As for giving other small gifts, you have to be subtle, secretly finding out what your wife likes.

Last year, just a week before October 20th, in the screenshot his wife sent him, he saw a banner advertising lipstick. Knowing that his wife was looking for information about this lipstick, he went to buy it.

"On the day of the gift, she was not happy. She asked why I didn't ask first because I bought a color she didn't like. So I had to beg the shop to change the color," he said.

As for Tran Khang (29 years old, living in Thu Duc City), although he has just entered his third year of marriage, he feels pressured because there are so many occasions in a year to give gifts to his wife.

He said: "I had this feeling when we were still in love. But at that time I didn't have much money so I only gave her teddy bears and keychains as gifts."

When the economy was a bit more stable, he felt a headache when he had to prepare gifts continuously. He said: "Even though we are married, on Valentine's Day, February 14, we still have to prepare gifts to warm up our feelings.

Then March 8th. Then my wife's birthday, then October 20th, our wedding anniversary, Christmas...".

That's why in recent years, Mr. Khang often gives gifts as a formality.

He was happy giving gifts to his wife but did not find this act as emotional as at first.

Small gift, big sincerity

According to his observations, Mr. Tuan realized that the pressure of giving gifts to women on every holiday stems in no small part from their expectations.

Images of couples exchanging expensive gifts, diamond rings, dining in luxury restaurants… on social networks make many people feel pressured.

"Women think they deserve it. Men put pressure on themselves to do it.

This inadvertently makes gift giving an obligation instead of an act of sincere affection," he said.

He added that he wanted to express his love for his wife through practical actions such as cooking together, going for a walk, or simply watching a movie they both liked.

Some people believe that small, delicate gifts can also convey love.

Bao Vy (21 years old) sells handmade flower bouquets on Vo Van Ngan Street, Thu Duc City. She said that these gifts are also a way to express warm feelings, not too formal.

Another seller said that for the past two years, small, cute gifts have been selling quite well.

The buyers of these gifts are mainly young people such as students and office workers. They want to show their affection to women without spending too much money or being too formal.

Kieu Nga (23 years old, Thu Duc City) shared: "It's okay if your boyfriend gives you a gift, or if he doesn't, it's okay too. The important thing is that you still love each other.

If you give flowers and gifts loudly but argue and treat each other badly on normal days, that relationship really won't last.

Similarly, Thao Ly (27 years old) said that she does not place much importance on gifts. She also does not expect her boyfriend to give her gifts.

"What I want is for my lover to spend time caring for me and sharing daily stories. Sharing, understanding and respecting each other is what I want, that is what lasts for a couple, not a few gifts," she expressed.
