On June 22, at a meeting of the Russian Security Council, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that Ukraine suffered heavy losses in the counterattack from June 4-21.

Presenting data compiled from the Ministry of Defense, the National Guard, military intelligence, etc., he stated: “We destroyed 246 tanks, including 13 Western tanks, 595 armored combat vehicles and armored cars, 279 field guns and mortars, including 48 Western guns, 42 multiple rocket launchers, 2 air defense missile complexes, 10 fighter jets, 4 helicopters, 264 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)...”.

For his part, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the data on Ukraine's losses were obtained by Russia from intercepting radio signals of the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VSU).

* On the same day, Strana (Ukraine) reported that the military commissioner of the Obolonsky district of the capital Kiev, Oleksiy Privala, announced the order of “general mobilization” on the website of the military recruitment center. Accordingly, all those who are subject to military service must appear at the military registration offices and enlist within 10 days. The requirement to appear applies to those who have not received a summons or a mobilization order, as well as those who are not registered in the Obolonsky district but live there. Individuals who evade will face criminal penalties.

The website did not specify whether military commissioners in other districts had issued similar orders, but such measures are expected to be implemented across Kiev. Similar mobilization measures were implemented last week in Ivano-Frankivsk, the capital of Ukraine's western region of the same name.

* Meanwhile, writing on Telegram , Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that he had signed a law banning the commercial import of printed books from Russia or the commercial import of books printed in Belarus or Ukrainian territory controlled by Moscow. The bill, passed by the Ukrainian parliament a year ago, also requires special permits to import Russian-language books from third countries.

Meanwhile, writing on Twitter , the Office of the President of Ukraine affirmed that the above law contributes to "strengthening the protection of the country's cultural and information space against Russia's anti-Kiev propaganda campaign".

* Writing in the Wall Street Journal (USA) on June 23, Mr. William Galston, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution (USA), predicted that Ukraine may have to compromise after the counter-offensive campaign. At the same time, he said that this compromise does not necessarily coincide with the goals that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once stated about returning to the 1991 border.

“The tide of support for a ceasefire as a prelude to negotiations will be strong by the end of the year, even as some Eastern European allies question the wisdom of such a process,” Galston said. “That harsh reality will be a bitter pill for most Ukrainians.” He attributed the development to the US election cycle, declining Republican support for Ukraine, and the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the White House.

“If Mr. Zelensky is not ready to put the country's future at the mercy of American voters, he should seriously consider the possibility of finding the best deal while support from other countries is still strong,” the expert concluded.

* In related news, on June 22, Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak continued to call on Israel to provide advanced technology to shoot down UAVs believed to have been supplied to Russia by Iran.

However, Mr. Yermak also expressed disappointment that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not publicly support Ukraine, despite the Jewish state's interest in participating in the fight against Iranian UAVs. President Zelensky's Chief of Staff said that now was the time for the head of the Jewish state to visit Kiev, to show solidarity and support for the people of the Eastern European country.

So far, the Jewish state has maintained its policy of providing only humanitarian aid to Kiev, instead of military aid as called for by the US and Ukraine. Israel recently assisted Ukraine in installing a missile attack warning system, but has refused to comment on the possibility of Netanyahu visiting Kiev. Since the conflict in Ukraine broke out, Israel has always avoided statements or actions that could negatively affect its relationship with Russia.
