Reporter: What brought you and your wife to the Xom Kich stage?
Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang
- Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang: My husband and I were both young actors. When we first graduated, Hoang Thy and I did not have many opportunities to gain experience, especially big roles. Therefore, we understand the feelings of young actors very well. Currently, we are still working in training, so the decision to establish the Xom Kich stage is so that students can live with their passion and gain experience before reaching better opportunities.
.Is it reckless to produce Xom Kich without the participation of "stars"? Does this also mean that the box office revenue will not be high?
- To say reckless is a bit too light. Some of my uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, friends and colleagues, including my homeroom teacher - director Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc - said "we are crazy but crazy in the right way". After more than 20 years in the profession, I understand the attraction of "stars" in a stage production. However, at present, financial resources do not allow me to invite "stars" to participate.

In my opinion, if we bring the audience an imperfect product, no matter how many "stars" there are, we cannot save the play. Humanistic values and seriousness in each work are what my wife and I aim for in Xom Kich.
Having worked hard to train a team of young actors and screenwriters, what is your and your wife's expectation?
- The young people who have studied with us all share a passion for acting. Seeing them work hard to improve their skills, I think they deserve opportunities to improve and assert themselves. By equipping them with basic knowledge, my wife and I hope that this team will be able to demonstrate their burning passion, thereby contributing to the maintenance and development of art in general and drama in Ho Chi Minh City in particular.
As a child of a family with a tradition of reformed opera, do you think you will become a reformed opera director in the future?
- The art of Cai Luong is very sacred to me. Cai Luong is the cradle that nurtured and urged me to follow the path of art. I myself do not have much experience in staging a Cai Luong play. But if I am trusted and given the opportunity, I would like to try it at least once, to show gratitude for what I have inherited from my parents.
"The Lost Soul" has just been performed and has attracted public attention. What message do you want to send to the audience through this play?
- Let's share the love in the family so that love can multiply. Let's share the sadness to understand each other better. Let's share the pain to heal the wounds of life together. That is the message I want to convey in the play "The Lost Soul".
.As a film face who won the "Best Supporting Actor" award - Golden Kite Award 2023, you are also a teacher who guides many students to progress. Are you satisfied with what you have achieved?
- Seeing our students grow up, live ethically, and appreciate their profession, my wife and I are extremely happy. But we are not satisfied yet because the young people are still struggling on the path to finding opportunities and asserting themselves.
As a musician who composes most of the songs for the plays he stages, do you have any plans for the future regarding your musical composition career?
- I don't dare to call myself a musician. I know how to play music, I have a little knowledge about composing, but I'm still far from being called a musician. I also have no intention of turning to music composition. I only compose for plays at the Xom Kich stage to satisfy my passion for music and not get caught up in copyright issues in each of my stage works.
