At the workshop "Risk warning and prevention of online fraud" recently organized by the Vietnam Information Security Association - Southern Branch (VNISA), Mr. Pham Le Minh, representative of MoMo - Head of Information Security Department - gave a presentation on the topic "Technical solutions to handle high-tech gambling".
By applying leading technologies, MoMo builds an intelligent security system capable of identifying unusual transactions and criminal behaviors... In addition to technical solutions, MoMo also continuously improves its products and actively cooperates with authorities to promptly detect and prevent high-tech gambling crimes. These efforts are all aimed at building a positive, healthy and sustainable digital economic environment.
Along with that, MoMo proactively coordinates to provide information to the police and investigation agencies to arrest gambling organizers. Typically, MoMo cooperates with Bac Giang provincial police to destroy a 2,000 billion VND gambling ring by the end of 2022.
Mr. Pham Le Minh said that the subjects took advantage of MoMo in two points: transaction history and money transfer transaction code. Faced with this problem, to ensure healthy and safe business operations for users and businesses, MoMo continuously proactively upgraded, improved and built an intelligent security system capable of identifying unusual transactions, thereby being able to detect early and promptly prevent acts of taking advantage of MoMo to organize gambling and other illegal acts in cyberspace.

Lessons learned by MoMo in the process of building and developing technology solutions. The biggest lesson is the development of a Defense in Depth model, which means multi-layered defense, from the device layer, front-end, back-end, product to operations and related policies. Furthermore, defense in depth is the shared responsibility of all relevant departments in the company, from the IT department to other departments such as Product, Risk Management, Legal, Customer Care, Communications, etc.
MoMo also shared: Not depending much on technology can still bring high efficiency; and anyone can participate in the process of building information security solutions by regularly updating information on new forms, methods, and tricks that gambling groups proactively build and proactively and actively coordinate with state authorities to provide necessary information, thereby promptly detecting and preventing high-tech gambling activities are also lessons that Mr. Minh mentioned at the workshop.
